Hobgood's best outing in ages

The Stadium radar gun had him at 90 -91 most of the time. However, he seemed to be throwing more easily and he looked good on the mound. I think he will be in great shape in the spring and warrant moving up to Frederick.

Doc, could you hint at the difference between "great shape in the spring" and now?

He has continued to lower his weight and improve his muscle to bofy fat ratio since the All-Star break. early season travel and eating patterns were rough on the young man. He has signed up to train under the person I consider the best in the business starting in about three weeks rest after the season. He should come in in awesome shape.

That is a good sign. Next year is a very important one for Hobgood.

Hobgood to a friend on his facebook "wall": "....come out next year and watch me dice up [bryce] harper just like senior year"

At least the kid is still very confident!

Hobgood may be on to something. Despite a record-breaking season using a wood bat against competition 1-3 yrs his senior, I heard Harper really struggled with 88-91 mph fastballs and inconsistent secondaries. :)

Final ERA of 4.40 - not great but not awful either. He finished pretty strong and I still feel the jury's out.

This juror is convinced that not picking Green was an awful mistake. I could understand and forgive picking Matzek over Green; but not Hobgood over Green.

Stotle, good line. :laughlol:

This juror needs to see Green improve his K/BB ratio, have success outside the California League, and improve his fielding before he gets on that bandwagon.

Green's K rate got better as the season progressed. He had a strong season but it's a bit telling that the A's never promoted him this season.

Hobgood's 3 years younger and one level behind Green in the minors. He's got time to catch him.
