The Lady Terps are awesome. :D

What do YOU have to brag about? You're a bandwagon Duke fan!!!

4 titles...Countless ACC titles....Top 3 program in the country. Best coach in the sport.

Oh well, guess I am bandwagon..for the last 23 years.

Oh and the Lady Terps were somewhat of a disappointment after winning their title...You know, like the men's team!

Don't be mad because I am calling you out for what you know is true. You have a Duke avatar on an Orioles forum. That is all the proof I need to back myself up right there. You were a Niners fan growing up. Come on, man. Just admit you like to ride the wagon from time to time.

I didn't want to come here, but let me just mention that several people, myself included, have avatars of other sports teams. I remember Private O having an Xavier logo, if I remember correctly. Doesn't mean that anybody's less of an O's fan. Being here in general should show at least a little bit of our fandom.

And dude, if he annoys you so much, don't look in the thread. Geez. If he WAS being a troll, then all you're doing is feeding him, and I think that's worse than trolling in the first place. You can't troll if nobody responds.

Jeez, the jealously is really showing here. All SG did was post a thread about the fact that a highly coveted recruit had committed to Duke. There's nothing snarky or otherwise objectionable about his post. So why attack him for it?

It does seem like Coach K has gotten on a little bit of a roll in the last couple of years, after a relatively down period for him. My guess is that his role as coach of USA Basketball is pretty attractive to players who want to be comfortable that they are being prepared to suceed not only at the college level, but in the pros. The fact that Doc Rivers would send his kid there speaks volumes.

It does seem to me that Coach K has better luck attracting guards and small forwards than he does big men. He gets some big guys but they tend to be plodders. Carolina does better with the big men.

Umm... Yes.

But you are right that you did nothing wrong by starting this thread.

I think it's more annoyance towards people (SG in this case) who clearly jumped on the bandwagon of a team that they would have no good reason for rooting for and is hated in these parts, then on top of that, being rather prominent in bragging about them and putting down the home team. Beaner for instance can easily get away with posting a thread about UNC getting a top recruit because he stands in sharp contrast to what I just said.

Anyway, I do agree that Coach K being the USA coach has helped some with recruiting.

Concerning big men, Plumlee was a huge recruit, as have some other Duke big men, but K's recent track record with them isn't as good as with the perimeter players.

Do you not get that it is posters such as yourself that make me gloat? If you guys weren't such d-bags towards me about this stuff, then i wouldn't gloat. But because you are, I enjoy it immensely.

I will continue to watch them dominate and love every minute of it.

BTW, I have stood behind guys like Gary Williams and Vazquez much more than many of the so called MD fans on here and on other MD boards.

Oh I get it as I had to deal with obnoxious Ravens fans (at least when talking about the Skins) back when I did actually like them. However, I'm not being a d-bag about this and everything I said is true. You did jump on the bandwagon and you do act like a d-bag towards MD fans often, yet they do the same to you, but that is to be expected on a forum where MD is the home team and you are, well you.

I was simply explaining that it goes a lot further than jealosy, which Frobby pointed to.

You can continue to watch them dominate and love every minute of it, I'm not trying to stop that, but if you don't want to deal with d-bags getting on your case over this, then change the way you post about them, otherwise, don't act surprised or offended or feel the need to get in a big debate when people get upset or call you out on things.

BTW, I also said there was no problem with you starting this thread, and I certainly do not defend PaulBako.

I give them what they give me and I am not changing that.

I said nothing to bring this on yet the dbags came out of the woodwork.

Frobby is right..its jealousy.

You are right that you didn't deserve PaulBako's posts. But that was just one dbag as you say, which you could have ignored or at least left out the comment about the Terps. After that comment, it's certainly not surpising that the thread has gone the way it has.

It's about much more than jealousy though as I already explained. People have as much reason to be jealous of UNC, yet Beaner doesn't elicit the same reactions as you do. There are reasons for that other than jealousy and other than the fact that Duke is disliked a lot more, although the latter at least has some credence.

Speaking as a Duke grad....no they don't!

Hah, just stirring things up. I grew up rooting for Maryland as a kid, during the McMillen/Elmore/Lucas era. I can assure you, Duke was about as important as a pimple on a flea's ass to Maryland fans back then. It was all about UNC and NC State. It took a long time for Duke to acquire the position of being the team that Maryland fans love to hate.

To this day, 31 years after I graduated from Duke, Maryland remains my second-favorite ACC team. I really thought, after they won the national championship, that Gary would be able to build on the higher profile and raise the program to another level on a consistent basis. But he's never gotten it there, and I can genuinely say I'm disappointed about that even though I'm a Duke fan first. I'd root for the Terps over the Heels any day.

    • Especially when you factor in the DL Hall trade too.  Suarez and Wells get bumped to the pen only if Bradish and Means are effective starters a decent part of the season.  Would the O's promote Povich or McDermott to pitch relief?  My guess is not anytime soon, but I dunno. A trade would for one or two arms would be best, but trading for good relief pitching is only harder now because so many teams can make the playoffs.
    • But O'Hearn's numbers are inflated because he never bats against lefties, plus he's trash in the outfield.  If Santander's hitting does not improve this season of course you don't give him a QO, but that's unlikely.  He'll probably pick it up as the weather heats up.  Plus Tony plays at least a decent RF and can play first base too.   Like others have said, should the O's offer Santander a QO?  Maybe -- it depends on how he performs and how Kjerstad and Stowers perform.
    • Wait, since when is money no object? It remains to be seen what the budget constraints are going to be with the new ownership, but if Santander is projected to put up 3.0 WAR for $20 million and his replacement (Kjerstad/Cowser/Stowers...) can put up 2.5 WAR for less than a million then that will be factored in.  The goal will never be about being better than the other 29 teams in a payroll vacuum.
    • I think you have a good understanding and I assume you’ve read Ted Williams Science of Hitting.  It’s all about lining up planes of pitch and bat.  Historically with sinkers and low strikes a higher attack angle played and was more in alignment with pitch plane.  In today’s game of spin and high zone fastball an uppercut swing gives you minimal chance and results in top spin grounders and swing & miss.
    • I'll bow to your expertise even if it seems unlikely to my laymen understanding.
    • Actually it will.  As you noted.  MLB pitch plane is like 2-3 degrees.  The more your attack angle increased the more you’re hitting a top spin tennis return.
    • My point was an overly uppercut swing isn't going to result in that low a launch angle.  Not unless he is somehow consistently topping the pitches, which seems pretty unlikely.
