The Official 2010 Top 30 lists thread

Tony-OH

Recommended Posts

Ok, this is the thread where you go on record with your top 30 list. I know some of you have already done so in other threads but I like to put together an offical list where you can put down and discuss your lists before our list comes out.

As for our lists, here's the schedule:

10-6 will be published November 1st-November 5th

5-1 will be published 8-12 November

During the week of 15-19 November we will announce two spots each day with 11-12 being announced on Monday the 15th, 13-14 on Tuesday and so on thru 20. We will announce 21-25 on Monday 22 November and 26-30 on Wednesday 24 November.

31-50 (known as players to keep an eye on) will be announced on 29 November.

We will give out two tickets to a 2011 Orioles game to the poster who gets the most selections right out of the top 30. All lists must be submitted by October 31st in order to be eligible for the "contest."

Man this is tough. I have personal opinions about where certain players belong on the list, but to get a list as close to yours as possible... phew. So many questions. *throws up hands*

You could always submit two lists, one that you think will match mine and your personal list but honestly I think you should just send in your list.

This is a good list.

Based on posts by Tony, I would think Pelzer is out of the Top 30 completely. He agrees Davis was a 2nd-3rd round pick, so even though Hudson is completely off this list, I think Davis falls in the 15-20 range. Welty placed 10th last season, IIRC, and didn't do much to fall to 25th, so I think he is in the 10s as well. Tony is high on Schoop, Givens, and Machado, so I think all 3 end up in the Top 10.

Even though Mahoney had a good season, Tony says most scouts don't see him as a top prospect, so he might actually come in the 10-15 range.

I think the killer B's (Bundy, Beal, Berry) move up a few spots, with Narron and Coffey falling a bit.

I think the #10 spot will go to Schrader because of his ability to move through the system quick.

And I think Tony keeps Britton #1, with Machado #2.

But anyway, this is the hardest list to make in years since most of the players are potential vs. limited results, though you are going to have lots of players that still want to put Adams and Mahoney in their top 10.

The first two are easy, the next three after that should be fairly cut and dry although the order can be debated, after that, all hell breaks loose. :D

Yep. I think next year is going to be fascinating. There are very few sure things but a lot of guys who could really cement prospect status for themselves or set themselves up for non-prospect status.

By the way, if Snyder and Hobgood aren't in the top five (and Rowell obviously isn't), that means we are 0 for 3 with our 1st round high school picks under Jordan, leaving Machado out of the equation since he has barely played yet.

I don't follow this logic, especially with Hobgood.

* Hoes right now is ahead of Avery, but Avery is closing in fast with good performance in AFL after breakout 2010

* Hobgood is still top 10 for me because he still has low to mid 90 MPH heat in him, conditioning/mechanics are holding him back

* Wirsch is still high in my books, his injury wasn't a serious injury and still has projection physically and 2 secondaries that project nicely

* Coffey is behind Bridwell and Henry because of questions in velocity when back from injury. Henry was dominant and unlucky according to FIP

* Like Drake, he quietly progressed nicely in 2010

* Beal is safe, but hopeful upside is fading if he cannot add more to the FB, high floor.

* Tim Berry flashed good stuff and production in a SSS, potential sleeper, and extremely projectable

* Martin's ceiling is pretty high, but command issues will be a red flag until improvement is made, great K's and GB rates though, could be higher in retrospect

* Love Webb's tools and attitude

* Don't love Mahoney, but production and athleticism deserve a top 30 mention in my projection heavy list.......

Some caveats:

* I'm not even going to try to out-guess Tony. This list reflects my personal impressions and preferences.

* More than most here, I put a lot of value on a player being close to MLB, even if the projection is just as a role player. To me, the farther a player is from being promoted to the big league team, the greater the chance of potential going unrealized. (I'm not doing backflips over any of the 09 overslot kids who still haven't pitched 40 innings in rookie ball). Obviously some kids far down the ladder show such talent and high ceiling that they're very valuable regardless of being several years away. But being "here and now" and potentially ready to contribute means a lot.

* I'll freely admit that everything below #10 or #15 is a WAG.
