The Friarhood looks at the trade market for AGon

Here's their blurb about the Orioles:

Orioles: The Orioles tried to sign Mark Teixeira as a free agent before the Evil Empire swooped in with their bags of cash. They seem willing to spend if it’s for the right player and Adrian is very comparable to Tex. The Orioles need a first baseman and have some good young players the Padres could be interested in. Adam Jones would be a good fit for Petco Park and the Orioles could use Felix Pie in center field. They could have interest in Josh Bell for third base, and the Orioles have a ton of pitching.

Jones, Bell, David Hernandez for Gonzales?

I think the Padres would listen, but want much more. And I wouldn't move Matusz or Britton. Probably wouldn't move Tillman either.

Jones, Bell, Guthrie? They would have to entertain it, but still think we have to pony up more (2 B SP prospects probably), particularly if we want a week to extend him before completing the trade.

I'd rather sign Dunn and keep the players. But...that's no sure thing either. Gotta be interested in something like this.

Am is far too stupid and slow to make this work. And besides, he is conspiring to keep us down so he will have a pathetic mid-market team to point to once he becomes comissioner. We should fire him now so Showalter can trade lots of our young guys for AGon and win now.

Sarcasm?

I am warming to the idea of sending Jones, plus certain players for Gonzalez.

I would send Jones, Tillman, and Bell, but we would have to backfill our depth chart by signing someone like Garland (hopefully at the right price) and re-sign Patterson. I think an OF of Markakis, Pie, Scott, Reimold, Patterson would be interesting. The only thing that sticks out to me is the lack of a right handed power bat. Maybe Reimold will break out as a righthanded DH and spot starting oufielder.

This still leaves SS and 3B unsolved...

Of course. :)

Glad I asked ;)

Even when it seems obvious, it's hard to pin down in-print sarcasm...

I'm definitely on board with those who'd rather not send half the farm and a lifetime supply of crabcakes to San Diego for someone who'd almost certainly bolt in a year.

I don't know why we would trade a young star CF for a one year rental when we could...blah, blah blah.

Why does all this look so familiar?

I might be in the minority, but I'd have a hard time giving up Jones in a deal for AGon.

If it were for a younger stud like Votto, I'd certainly be interested. I'm not doing it for a guy who is not likely to be worth whatever humongous contract he's going to get.

Rep given. Well played, sir.

If I'm giving them Jones and/or Tillman it's not coming without an extension. I'd see if they would do Pie, Bell and Tillman - that's actually a pretty good return for them. If they want more then I'd swap out Tillman for two younger pitchers. Even with the extension, if they get Jones I'm pulling Tillman out of the deal.

But then again, I am not really the one making the deals, am I? :D
