I really can't tell if she's on our side (the O's) or not. Maybe she's secret Yankees spy planted to urge the Orioles to make bad decisions.

There is no side, she can write about how the Orioles should trade for Fielder and be blasted. If she writes that they shouldn't as they could just bid for him in the open market, then she will get blasted. So she writes somes very logical and likely and gets blasted.

Giving up a large package for one year of Fielder doesn't make sense as he might not extend. To get a negotiating window we would likely have to give up even more. When he hits free agency how are we going to lure him to Baltimore. An extra year or two at an additional $2M-3M per? So a team like the Angels or Cubs can offer him a 6/$120M deal and to think he would trump them we would need to be at 7/$161. I like Fielder, but let's not wash our hands on how much we would have to offer pay to get him.

was listening to Jen Royle and Ken Weinman on the way home. Jen boldly stated that Prince Fielder will never sign here as a free agent, and it would be stupid to trade for him.

Well, she is wrong...at least if the Orioles put a monster deal on the table, one that ends up being the best deal he can get.

Now, the Orioles will not offer that deal, so she is right in saying that he will never sign here.

SG, how much do you think we would need to beat our competition by? I say 1-2 years and $2-$4M per.
