  1. I will be there 3/21 - 3/28.  We are hoping to catch one of the final two games.  My kids want to see some of the minor league camp and hopefully catch up with Adley as he went to HS nearby.

Did anyone have trouble buying tickets through the "pre-sale" link the Orioles sent?  It kept erring out on me.

As long as there's no structural damage you might be right

Like a hamstring pull it depends on the severity.  The way he was reacting has me fearing that this isn’t some mild strain a recreational jogger gets.  We will be lucky to have him in 3 weeks.

We will know more on Tuesday.  Any over 30 athlete will tell you it’s not the day after but the second day after that really hurts.

  3. This quote tells me there was a clash of philosophies:

“I’m not happy, not at all, that they don’t see a value in what I do. And they’ll spin it some other way: A reallocation of resources and new people and a different, fresh set of eyes,” Surhoff said. “OK, except my eyes have 35 years of experience in pro ball.”

I would keep an eye on Mick Abel.  Upper 90's FB, flashes plus slider, command coming around and working on a changeup but hard throwing HS all need to work on that.  It will be interesting to see how much weight he adds to his frame this fall/winter and how he progresses next spring.

I’ve seen Mick against our local HS and at my son’s baseball sacademy.  Kid throws easy gas and a humble kid.

Going with the former Orioles' theme: I wonder whether Chris Tillman, who last pitched 4 innings for the Rangers' AAA team in August last year, has had any thoughts on trying to return? He's a free agent and apparently hasn't pitched competitively in a year... so, maybe with a fresh arm the 31-year old could make a go of it. I know he was bad at the end there, but he was pretty solid a few years ago.  While the likelihood of him getting that quality form back is remote, one nevers knows. I wish him well, regardless.

I’m surprised that Tillman hasn’t gone up to Driveline in Seattle or a few of the other schools known for increasing velocity and helping in pitch design.  I guess he’s just given up and content in retirement.

That’s really tough, Wieters is a little below the median outcome for a 1-1 overall pick, maybe 35-40% percentile 1-1 outcome. So I guess I’d go a different direction.

What if you could get Joe Mauer like production out of Adley?  Both guys were tremendous athletes at similar age, both sweet, efficient swings.

    No brainer.....

I've always thought Wieters had a really looooooooooong swing and didn't have great bat speed.  Together he never seemed to be able to catch up with a good fastball.

Rutschman's swing seems more efficient therefore he is better equipped to turn around a good heater.

I thought it was a hand injury, did he get a bad shoulder working back from the hand injury?

Nope, you're right.  It is his hand.  Discomfort due to blood clots.  It's a real shame as he's a great kid.  During school breaks he works out at my son's baseball academy and helps the younger kids.

  9. I've been one of those guys who was at Defcon 3 at work. God only knows what the dude in the stall next to me was thinking.

I was working at the office building that houses the Galleria & Renaissance Hotel. A few colleagues (beautiful young 23 year old women) and I decided to eat Chinese for lunch at what was then a restaurant directly across Lombard St from our building. I think it was called The China Room at night. Anyway...BIG MISTAKE!

So we finished lunch and headed out of the restaurant when all of the sudden my stomach started gurgling and I could barely hold it in. These chicks wanted to go to a nearby candy store at harborplace but I had to make up a lame excuse why I couldn't go with them as I walked hurriedly w/my butt cheeks clenched to get back to the office.
