  1. I swear if I see one more person suggest that the Jaguars move to LA....

The latest is Jamison Hensley. Yea dude, you are an fing genius. ZOMG, it just makes so much sense and I thought it up all by myself! Clearly there are tons of other factors that I am oblivious to, since I have no knowledge of the Jacksonville area, but why should that stop me?

You know what? The Orioles rarely sell out their stadium either. We should move them. Sure, the owner doesn't want to move them, and their fan base is reduced but very passionate, but who cares? There's clearly another city that would appreciate the O's more. Or any number of other sports franchises.

In closing, if you think (without knowing shat about the dynamics of another city) that you know whats best, PISS OFF.

    Sucks to you Jamison.

There is a bit of a difference between the Jags and the O's, however. Fans have supported the Orioles far better than they have ever deserved over the last decade. The same can't really be said for Jacksonville.

You also have to realize the history behind Baltimore and Jacksonville - Hensley is echoing the general feeling in the Baltimore area about the whole situation. People around here are still pretty bitter that Baltimore, a city with a proud NFL tradition and incredibly desperate for a team, was passed over in expansion by Jacksonville. That the Jags have not been well supported lends credence to this feeling.

  2. You are too kind. Truly, I do not deserve the way you treat me. :D

Honestly, I had a song from an early ep of their's off off a Mojo comp that cribbed part of Crimson and Clover. Good tune. I just find them really limited. But, again, I have admittedly Catholic tastes where rock bands are concerned. If I hear drums, I need some bass.

I still think their first 5 song EP was the best stuff they have done. It sounds like it was recorded in my basement, however. Not necessarily a bad thing, btw.

  3. Dr. John "The Night Tripper" — Gris-Gris. This is a seriously messed-up record, Dr. John's first and (IMO) finest. Often enough it sounds like a Lomax field recording of a voudoun ceremony as produced by Joe Meek! When you're feeling like a big bowl full of wrong, this is the record to put on.

His definitive version of "I Walk on Guilded (sic) Splinters," notably massacred by Cher, Humble Pie and Paul Weller among others, may be the spookiest, most badazz thing I've ever heard.

    (Edit: Actually, Weller's version

on Jools Holland circa 1995 (as well as the Stanley Road version that featured prominently in season 4 of The Wire) is altogether respectable and fairly badazz in its own right ... though "Gilded Splinters" is a song I don' t like to see removed too far from its context. Paul Weller and The Wire? This one's for you, frankpembleton!)

Ha! Very true. Thanks for that. Per usual, I can't give you any more rep. Weller's solo career has been pretty hit or miss, but yeah, that's a cool video and he still is pretty much the definition of a badass. A couple years old, but still...

And Dr. John fits nicely in the wtf category. And I mean that in a good way.

What exactly is going on here?

  4. Blur and Supergrass (new album is fantastic). Always listeing to Fugazi and Q and not U. Love Pete Doherty and the Libertines..I am eagerly awaiting the Babyshambles album and hoping Pete gets his life in order. Love LCD Soundsystem.

As for older stuff: I guess Big Star, Modern lovers, Joy Division and New Order, the Smiths, the Clash, the Beach Boys, Dinousaur Jr., Mudhoney, the Replacements, and other bands of the same ilk. Pixies will always be one of my favorite bands as well as Sonic Youth. Cannot ever go wrong with the Davies brothers and their band the Kinks.
