How come, on the local stations, they always tell us "breaking news", but they never tell us who broke it?

There's this Nationwide commercial regarding the fact that they have an app for the iPhone(?) wherein you can report an accident directly from your phone.

Let's leave for a moment the fact this seems to be encouraging the use of a cell phone while driving...

At one point the narrator says (rather blithely) "Let's say you hit a tree..." and then a little bit later says "It even has a form where you can exchange information with the other driver."

OK, who's driving the tree, the Keebler Elves?
