Not really. Those acquisitions guarantee them nothing other than a lot of money to pay out.

These really jog your memory. As I was scanning the list I saw Steve Bechler at 14. Instantly I thought, "Didn't he die due to some strange event?" Sadly yeah, 2003 Spring Training in Ft. Lauderdale. Collapsed during conditioning drills, body reached 108 degrees. But it was a combination of things, pre-existing liver condition, Ephedra, Florida heat.
Reading about it I found out his wife had his ashes scattered on the pitcher's mound at Camden Yards. -
Merry Christmas to all!

These are great Tony!
Players to keep an eye on...17 year-old Hayden Penn. Geez, I remember following that kid and looking at his stats. I didn't know about the Hangout at that time. I might have been on Sun and also reading Baseball America. But I had high hopes w/Hayden. -
There was a lot of promise in that top 10. Pickering, McDonald, and Riley. Totally forgot about Ndungidi.

I haven't seen this posted anywhere else...so if it is feel free to delete. Interesting nonetheless to read the Boras quote about how Baltimore reaches out once or twice a day about extending Gunnar and Jackson. It's encouraging too. There's very little we see or hear outside of the occasional Elias quote on extensions. After reading this I wondered if Elias actually asked Boras as some kind of favor to put this out in the media....

Red Sox get three pitchers but nobody in the Yankees top 10.

Mike Berry put up some numbers that year! I can't say I remember him though. Aside from Ponson, I remember Nerio Rodriguez and Chris Fussell. I think Fussell was pretty heralded, but nothing happened there. Injuries? Man....that was a pretty barren system. Pat Gillick years.

I liked Frazier and what he contributed to the team. But no, I don't see him coming back. I didn't listen to the interview so I'm not sure what kind of role he's suggesting.

Sorry to derail the thread. I was having a crap day yesterday when I took it out here. I appreciate the words of support.
I totally get this, happens to all of us. Though I don't voice my appreciation enough I love this site for all of the information at our disposal. Thank you for your expert coverage and creating a community for Oriole fans around the world!

Same for my wife and I. We live in Orlando (Os fan since 1969), I've only been to one game at Camden Yards and it was rained out. That was 25 years ago. We'll be in town for the final game of the season against the Red Sox. Pretty psyched. Anybody got recommendations for an Italian restaurant in Little Italy after the game?

Long time lurker - first time poster....at least the first post in many years.
I am hoping someone smarter than me here can explain why / how our payroll was higher 25 years ago than it is now. The O's had the highest payroll in the league in 1998 at just over $71 million. I get that revenue is down from the last five years but the dollar is also worth nearly twice as much now as it was in 1998.
And why wasn't that asked in the interview?

Joey Wentz is not a pitcher teams would be looking for in the Orioles situation. He might be an off season target. There is very little to suggest that he would improve our chances this year.
Not suggesting he would. Merely saw the article and added it to the conversation.

The roster has been mismanaged into an 18-9 start. Stowers batting cleanup today in RF and O’Hearn at DH. I assume Santander is not 100%.
My thoughts exactly.

Nice note to go out on. All the best to Cadyn going forward in his life.

I just saw him in Orlando for the first time. He really put on a great show. I'm 61, and not really a huge Boss fan, but my best friend bought the tickets and came out from California and took my wife and I. About 2 hours and 45 minutes. Glad I saw it.

I think the two of you should consider starting your own podcast...or maybe even a sitcom. It would be a hit!

Dare I say “the Calvary”?!?

For the love of Brad Bergesen and Brian Matusz you may not!

All time home run and RBI king at Bowling Green State. Dude lives in Tennessee now, he and his wife have 7 kids.
I'll always remember his double against Papelbon last game of the season and then scoring on Andino's hit. I always felt like that was a huge shot in the arm for the Orioles and gave them a lot of confidence. -

I'm betting one of Ortiz or Westburg are going to be headliners in a trade for a starting pitcher over the winter. I kinda prefer to keep Ortiz just because I love the defense.
Wouldn't surprise me either. This offseason we'll start to move some talent and bolster the rotation. Only makes sense.

This is one of my regular go-to's. Tony, thank you for providing this. Orioles fan since 1969.

Totally got me. The same explanation Tony gave....Elias has this thing for middle infield depth.
