  1. Question: Who picks the 8 players that make up the players bargaining group?

I think I saw a list of the eight and by my count, five were BIG bucks players (Max Scherzer) and the other three I think have a GOOD living (Jason Castro: 11 yrs 47.7 mil).

Who is fighting for the first and second year players? Who is fighting for the T J McFarlands of the world ??

Maybe if this type of players were in the bargaining group, we may be closer to a settlement.

Except they aren’t doing that and ownership has shown no signs that they will allow it.

They absolutely can, as you point out but I doubt it happens.

Sports Guy...can you give the first three team and or yours....Blast from the past

  3. Why not just buy him out... Per Cots he is owed 17 mil for the next 3 yrs for 51 mil and then 42 mil over the next 15 yrs for a total of 18 yrs/93 mil.

Make him a F/A (giving him 3 yrs of freedom in his early 30's). Divide 93 mil by 18ys and you get 5.1667 per year. Chris gets all his money plus 3 yrs of time off in the buyout.

The O's get him off the 40/25 man rosters and save 11.84 mil a yr for 3 yrs.

I think trade for and release doesn’t make a ton of sense in the MLB system.

Haven't a few teams used it to give themselves more room below the competitive balance tax threshold?

The Dodgers have used it at least three times on large contracts for luxury

tax reasons. 1-Red Sox (goes back a couple years), 2-aquire Matt Kemp from Atl (I think Atl released 1 or 2 players) and with Reds for Homer Bailey who they released the next day.

  5. I don't think I have seen this posted, at least in this way.

Per Cot's Davis is owed 101 mil over the next 18.5 years.

59.5 mil over the next 3.5 yrs (paid 17 mil per yr)

35.0 mil over 10 yrs (3.5 mil as deferred money)

7.0 mil over 5 yrs (1.4 mil as deferred money)

My suggestion..Give him F/A NOW and pay him:

17 mil this yr ONLY and 5.166 mil a yr for 18 yrs.

He gets all his money and becomes a F/A now.

The O's get him off the 25/40 man roster and save 11.8 mil per year for the next 3 yrs.

This is important as the Orioles try and stockpile talent in the minors. Here are the players who will need to be added to the 40 man after this season to be protected from the Rule 5 Draft and have a decent chance IMO of being added.

(in rough order of the likelihood of being protected)

    Ryan Mountcastle

    Yusniel Diaz

    Keegan Akin

    Dean Kremer

    Ryan McKenna

    Cody Sedlock

    Ofelky Peralta

    Brett Cumberland

I think this is the largest list of players that is being talked about that need to be added/protected. A possible sign that we are slowly getting better and deeper in the minors.
