Where’d the rampant leg kick speculation come from? Wouldn’t be the first player to have a leg kick, won’t be the last.

Ben said something on the MASN broadcast that the high leg kick could be impacting his timing.

I don't think it's something that needs to be completely removed but to me it his swing looks similar to Bryce Harper.  Harper does have a high leg kick and has been tweaking his stance for years.

If you see below - high leg kick remains but he made other adjustments.

  2. I guess shoulder is a lot better than forearm.

Hopefully it's just some overuse / soreness issue that just requires rest.

We are fortunate to have Means coming back as well as Irvin and Suarez holding it down.  Bradish will be added soon and we also have a young lefty dominating in AAA.

This isn't the best of news - but we will be fine.

Roy hit us with the RFRJ (Roy Firestone Reverse Jinx) at the right moment.

  3. 100% completely agreed!

I can usually start watching the game around dinner time.  We do have a strict no TV rule with the kids during dinner time, however, the Oriole games are the only exception.  It's not really watching, more like listening.  We'll usually turn our heads when we hear KB getting excited.

By the time everything is cleaned up and the kids ready for bed - the game is usually in the 3rd frame (7/8/9) innings.

    Well done MLB and Orioles.

I’m not too surprised about Holliday.  I’m somewhat surprised about McKenna.  I guess they want an option for late inning defense in the OF for Santander or Kjerstad.

My guess is that we needed another Right-handed outfielder, and we have all lefties and one switch.  Easy move since McKenna is already on the 40 man.  Stowers time will come soon.

McKenna should be nothing but a late innings defensive replacement or maybe a one spot start against an upcoming lefty which Hays may be healthy by then.  He should not take any AB's away from Cowser and/or Mullins, but we know Hyde will probably sit Cowser.

This is a head scratcher as I thought Holliday should be given more time but to see him being sent down with McKenna coming up... barf.

    Henderson SS

    Tony RF

    Mateo 2B

Why is Tony still batting 4th?

Move Westy to #3 and Mounty to #4; or vice versa but good grief Hyde... come on.... Tony should be down at the 7/8 slot.

Had a hit last night, lined one off the pitcher.

    Keep sending him out there.

    This.

He should have had two hits last night.

Not sure if Hyde will play him this afternoon with a lefty starting but I don't see a need to send him down.

    I’ll go with:

    Gunnar SS

    Adley C

    O’Hearn 1B

    Tony RF

    Westburg 3B

    Mullins CF

    Cowser LF

    Kjerstad DH

    Holliday 2B

Is Mountcastle most likely resting again?  If Tony is playing, I'd hope with this lineup Hyde starts moving him down.  O'Hearn, Westburg, and Cowser are better hitters for the 3/4/5 spots.

If Mountcastle is available - O'Hearn / Kjerstad should be RF/DH.  Sit Tony.

  8. I'd be fine with Kjerstad taking some playing time (OF & DH) away from Santander.

I don't think there would be any drop off in our offense productivity and especially with our young guys (Cowser and Westburg) starting to breakout

This is the same conversation we had last year about Gunner. People wanting to send him down, he’s not ready, etc. Yes he is struggling, but he is also not getting much to hit and the umpires have had an expanded strike zone on him for whatever reason. He needs to be more aggressive early, like Gunnar early last year, he is seeing too many pitches. When Gunnar got aggressive, he took off.
He will figure it out and I’m sure there are hitting coaches and tape with advanced data he is going over things with. I’m sure the coaches are seeing the bad calls and are telling him not to get frustrated and stick to the process. I don’t know another 9 hitter that has been beared down on like he has been. He has really had some tough pitching and bad calls.
He is going to be fine, just let him work through it.

This.  I brought this up before. Sure he has some bad 0-1 calls go against him and next thing you know he is 0-2 just swinging away.

But look at the pitches thrown to him at #9 and then go look at the pitches thrown to Gunnar, and it's a joke.  He is getting painted on every corner.

Holliday is nowhere close to those numbers

It's only a 3rd of the ABs / Games.  The hits will come the numbers will get better.  The point being, it doesn't look pretty at first but there is no reason to panic.

I expect Hays to play today.

    My guess:

    Henderson - SS
    Adley - C
    O'Hearn - DH
    Santander - RF
    Mounty - 1B
    Mullins - CF
    Westburg - 3B
    Hays - LF
    Holliday - 2B

No Cowser vs RHP? with an off day tomorrow.... IMO either its Hays or Santander in RF today.

  14. I have watched a lot of his AB's and it looks like pitchers are just painting the corners on him.  He has not gotten anything really in the zone.  It's crazy that the pitchers attack him and then next up is Gunnar and he gets a hanging slider / changeup in the lower zone that he just pummels.

It's tough to see him struggle but I think he will build and learn from this.  He's not going anywhere.

  15. Maybe, just maybe... one of these games - we won't have to play from behind early.

We should be able to easily snag 2 out of 3, but if the lineup starts clicking it could be an easy sweep.

  16. Meh.  Santander has not been playing well since the second half of last year.  He had a couple "streaky" months (May 2023 & August 2023) but statistically everything from the second half and into this season, is not pretty.

We got some young guys (Stowers / Kjerstad) knocking on the door but are we going to just stick it out with him this season.... we know we are not re-signing him, maybe it's time to explore some options.

  17. 14 hours ago, DirtyBird said:

There is enough depth on this team that Santander shouldn’t need to be in the lineup every night.

Should give him off tomorrow, use Cowser in RF and Hays in LF.

I do agree with sitting Santander in LF if he continues to struggle  - but the leash should be very short for Hays.

We have young OF prospects raking in AAA right now. "Bring em out, Bring em out, Bring em out"
