If I thought Witt had HoF upside I take an infielder that plays 150+ games per year over a catcher.

The Davis contract is a sunk cost. I’d push him to work his ass off this offseason and have him come to camp as the DH against righties and force him to earn playing time beyond that. If he doesn’t perform, I try to trade him for a similar awful contract, but if that doesn’t work I cut him.

I say incomplete until we see what our total international haul is

I look at Gausman this way. We save $12-13m, we pick up 4 lottery tickets, and we get some good money to spend internationally. Gausman may become a stud there, but he wasn’t going to here.
Really looking forward to the international signings.

I think we need to see what happens with the international slot money before we have angst on Gausman deal. That’s a nice haul of money.

Manny was the cornerstone player to change the foundation of this team. They had 3 large market teams bidding in him. Teams that will just buy other international prospects. Diaz seems to have a floor of Adam Jones, so he's a good get. But the other pieces like Jones and Brach aren't getting you much more than if it works out a RP or utility type guy. Britton may get you 1 good prospect if a team panics. Hopefully the Braves panic and send us one if their good INF prospects for Britton.
Other than that, unless their trading Gausman or Bundy, Diaz is probably the only guy that has a really good shot to be a above average player.
A floor of Adam Jones is getting damn near a HoF level player. That’s a floor near the penthouse level.

Trade Britton, Brach, Adam, Trumbo and listen on Schoop, Gausman, and Bundy. The more we trade now the faster we get better. Oh, and then sign Manny back in offseason.

Let’s hope that dinger is the start of his resurrection. Would be great for everyone.

You simply can’t play him. He is having the worst major league season I have seen in my life. Move Mancini to 1B. Enough is enough.

Long term? .850+ over the next 7-10 years. This year? He probably won't be over .800, but I'd still bet on him getting back to .780 or so eventually.
Over the next 7-10 years.

There are approximately 150 players with greater WAR than Manny this year. His performance was way down the second half last year. His June numbers are better but they aren't off the charts good. Is he a 735 OPS, 800 OPS, or 850+ OPS? At the all star break last year I would have bet 850+ but based on the last 160 games he is closer to 735. Set aside the contract for a moment, what do you think Manny is as a player going forward?

Bad trade. This team isn't close to having what it takes to win. This team would need 2 more bats, a top of the rotation starter and possibly another top reliever.
Quit trading young pitching for rentals that aren't difference makers.

Outscoring the opposition wins. And Miller pitched 62 innings this past year, leaving about 1396 innings for other pitchers to pick up.
I hear ya and respect your point. Our starters generally don't go deep in games so being strong at the back of the bullpen shortens games as it relates to our starters.

I would not have matched the Seattle offer, nor would I pay Nick more than $8m per year for 4 years. I would go to 4/44m for Miller because I see him as a difference maker in his prime. I understand the risk with Miller but the reward is significant if he continues at a high level.
Pitching wins.
