  1. Those 1968, 1969 & 1970 teams are the reason that I'm a big Orioles fan from way down in North Alabama.  I remember seeing on the evening news in October of 69, Walter Cronkite showing the bird cartoon logo with tears running down it's face when losing in the 69 series.  I cried right along as I could not believe it either.

Then the magical 1970 series againt the Big Red Machine. The Orioles were too strong in that series.

Thought we had the 1971 series against the Pirates, but it wasn't to be.

And those American League Championship series against the mighty A's. Great series, but we just couldn't put them away.

The 1979 series still haunts me today. Up 3 games to 1 only to once again come up short. Today the Sister Sledge song, "We Are Family" gets quickly silenced. 🙂

The magic is coming back and I'm extrememly exited with the new ownership. Finally, we have people that want to win NOW.

    See you in Sarasota!

  2. As much as I'd love for the Os to improve on 83 wins, I just don't see it with the present lineup.

The bullpen saved us last year and to expect them to do the same this year is asking a lot.

If Means can come back in June and return to form it's possible. The schedule improves for the O's, but also for everyone else in the AL East.

Can Santander duplicate his numbers? Will Henderson continue to develop to be afront line starter?

Can we avoid serious injuries? There are a lot of unknowns moving forward.

Still a trade for a true durable front line starter is a must IMO for this team to seriously contend for a playoff spot.

  3. Heading down Friday March 13 through Saturday 21. Will be interesting to see who out of the 60 some odd invites, the ones that will head north.

Can't wait to get on the sand at Siesta Key and to Ed Smith.

Pitchers who have to stay in the minors for 15 days instead of the old 10 days will be a monkey in the wrench for our Norfolk Shuttle.

Yes it will. Also as the article states:

<Teams won’t be able to use the IL as a precaution for relatively minor injuries in 2020>

  5. Word of caution on Ed Smith and the sun. Sitting down low is a great seat, but also puts you in the sun for pretty much all game (take plenty of sunscreen). Sounds great, but it can get pretty hot 1:00 - 3:00 in the afternoon. If that's not you cup of tea, the shade will be up in the upper sections on the first base side. There is usually a cool breeze the higher you sit in that section as well.

The Orioles' first game is at Atlanta's new stadium, 6 weeks from Saturday.

Living in North Alabama its Braves country. But, I grew up here when the Orioles were on Saturday baseball constantly. So, migrated to those Orioles powerhouse teams in the late 60's/70's. Huge fan ever since.

I hope to get to that new ballpark in mid-March and root against them. ?

  7. Bradenton (Pirates) is an easy drive from Sarasota. Highly recommended. Tickets are usually aplenty. Parking can be a bit of an issue if you arrive late. Stadium has been updated and has a huge Tiki bar behind center field.

The Atlanta Braves are now in North Port, Florida which is in south Sarasota County. Should be a fairly short easy ride and their new stadium looks very nice. I anticipate that tickets will be in demand for most of their games.

The Tampa Rays are in Port Charlotte which is right down I-75 south of Sarasota.  Decent ballpark. Plenty of parking and tickets are usually available.

  8. If you like sun & sand, head over to Siesta Key. One of the nicest and largest public beaches anywhere. Beautiful beaches all over that area. A few miles away is Siesta Key village with good restaurants & shops.

    A few recommended restaurants:

    Columbia - St. Armands Circle

    Owens Fish Camp - Downtown

Walt's Fish Market - Tamiami Trail

    Yoders - Bahia Vista Street

    KaCey's Seafood & More - Fruitville Road

Village Café - Siesta Key  (Breakfast/lunch)

    Duval's - Downtown

I mean it can. Cobb's hurt (again) and we're minus Gausman this season. And if you're banking on a rebound from Cashner then I've got a wonderful bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell ya.

Just believe there will be some improvement among the group (starters). Bundy needs to be more consistent and stay out of the middle of the plate. Karns "could" be a nice addition (build up his innings). Another year for Hess should help him develop further. Cobb should be solid and Cashner will eat up innings.
