Im Not sure how I’m undervaluing him.  I’m just not going to overrate a sub 650 OPs player who just played defense at a level he never has before.

I have said I think he will be the starting SS next year, which I think is a mistake but at least we have depth and can move on from him quickly.

Hes just not an everyday player, especially when you have better options.

Mateo has played one year in the majors.  He has played shortstop one year in the majors.  When he was with the Padres he never played short and his experience was a short sample size.  I honestly think he will get better.  I understand the options in the minors but I'm not sure we should just forget about Mateo.

  2. This is a good thread and i enjoyed reading every ones comments.  For me, I didn't mind the trades if we got back talent that can help us in our journey to compete for the next 5-8 years.  I believe Trey is hitting below .200 since the trade and Lopez hasn't been lights out like he was for us before the deadline.

Losing 6-8 to Boston has hurt as well as the final 2 they lost to Houston.  Losing 5 games to Detroit 2 games to the Reds and the Sunday loss to the Pirates stand out to me as games that stand out to me.  Toronto is better then us offensively and their pitching staff.  We simply do not have a Gausman or a Manoah at the top of our rotation right now that can be a stopper.  We need 2 starters for next and 2 bats.

SS is a more important defensive position, so in that regards, Mateo is more valuable.

But we have other players who can play SS and play it well, so it’s not like we are in trouble there.

So, why clamor to push out Urias and be excited and feel the need to give Mateo another chance?

You could easily argue that our best lineup is Westburg at first, Ortiz at second, Henderson at SS and Urias at third.  That is a good combo of offense and defense.

I was much higher on Urias in July and early August but honestly, what has he really done since then?  I'd much rather have Mateo and move on from Urias with Westburg as his replacement.

The rotation has given the Orioles everything they could have hoped for. You can’t really ask anymore from this bunch.

Minnesota and Tampa are behind the Orioles still in IP/S. In fact TB is last.

That said days like yesterday prove the value of having an ace. Now maybe the ace wasn’t lined up yesterday but soaking up more innings helps the pen throughout the year.

I couldn't agree more.  I am happy with what our rotation has given us this year but please if your spending money go all out and bring in an ace if possible?  The Jays having Gausman and Manoah in this series is nice.  BY the way, we got nothing in the Gausman deal did we?  Why in the world did they just deal him like they did?  That was not smart.  We traded Gausman and Manny and literally got nothing in return but Kremer.

    Batting 6th, playing third base.

Urias is at DH and Odor stays at second.

    No Stowers.

Every time I read someone say Odor stays at second when they see the lineup I can't help but thinking back to Moneyball.  Pena at 1B no Hatteberg 😂

It really is dumbfounding how they are handing this roster and how they are holding onto some of these guys as if they are actually good.

Henderson should have been up here at worse two weeks ago.  I don't discredit the impact Odor has had with this team and the club house chemistry but with this teams offensive woes the last few weeks you would have thought having Gunnar up earlier to have a chance to have more of an impact get some games under his belt get comfortable would have made more sense.  I also think they are afraid to DFA Nevin because he literally is the back up first baseman.

    Jackson?  As in Holliday?

Yes, obviously you have to give up something to get a pitcher like Cease.  I am not a fan of giving him up but was just curious?  I'd love a TOR starter on this team.  Hopefully, Grayson pitches the way we all hope and it is a strong 1-2 punch.

Well, that does depend on Cowser.  Some feel he is a CFer and if the Os do feel that way, he could slide in quickly.

You can also acquire a CFer by other means, like signing Kiermeier for example.

Mullins is a good player but I do question where he is in 2-3 years and if you can use him to get good young pitching and you can keep your better prospects, I’m all for that.

Do you think the White Sox at least listen if we do Hays + Westburg +Jackson for Dylan Cease?  Is that enough?  Is it too much?
