I was thinking of watching some of the Nats feed anyway, just to get their perspective on the O’s.
This Nats team is plucky, a little like the 2022 O’s in the early going. They can’t hit much but their pitching isn’t bad. I don’t take this series for granted at all, though we’re the better team.
Anyone going? I’m thinking about getting some last minute tickets to the Wednesday game.
Just moved back to Northern Virginia and haven't been able to get to Camden yet this year, so we're going on Wednesday. It will be my wife's first game at Nats Park.

I've had this asked of me in regards to football games involving my Redskins and Longhorns, and my response is always, "I've seen a MILLION close/thrilling games already; I'll take a blowout any day". And that applies here as well. But I'll take them all!

I did some quick math and it's possible there is an error in here, but I took a look at how often the team with the best record in each league made/won the World Series by era. Here's what I came up with:
Pennant era (pre-1969) - Obviously, the teams with the best records made and won the Series 100% of the time.
Divisional era (1969-1993, excluding 1981) - 60% of the teams with the best record in their league made the Series, and 63% of the WS winners had their league's best record.
Wild card era (1995-2023, excluding 2020) - 36% of the teams with the best record in their league made the Series, and 39% of the WS winners had their league's best record.
It goes without saying that the more teams and rounds you throw into the playoff mix the harder it is for everyone to advance, but this illustrates how seldom the "best" team wins the WS these days. One of the things that I've always loved about baseball is having to prove yourself every day for 6 months. The current post-season tournament certainly waters down the import of that considerably.
That being said, it's not going away, so we need to figure out a way to make it happen in the post-season. As others have said, if you consistently make the post-season, the hope is that you'll eventually win it all.

First of all, how good are those little video spots they've been showing the last month or so during the games? They're very well-produced and really capture the feel of this team without being over the top. Huge kudos to the O's and MASN for coming up with them.
The "soak it in" motto leads to the second point. This entire season has been an absolute blast, and I hope everyone has had as much fun following the O's as we have. As others have stated, even though we are young and built for future success, nothing is guaranteed so let's all enjoy this amazing ride. It's been a long, hard road for O's fans, but this season has made it all worthwhile.

Tippy Martinez with Lenny Sakata set to catch; but instead of throwing it Lenny, Tippy flips it to Eddie at first.

Back to Kjerstad, he’s got nice, easy power. I was listening to a podcast yesterday and the Bowie PA announcer was a guest. He said what surprised him about Kjerstad when he was at Bowie was how much power he had to the opposite field and the LCF alley. That was on full display last night with his HR to LF and two long fly outs in the alley (374 and 387 feet). He definitely shows 35-40 HR potential.
Nice, easy power is a great description of him so far. That has impressed me as well. It doesn't seem like he really got a hold of either of his 2 bombs so far, but out they went anyway. That's a good omen.

Hays with the Gatorade cooler was absolutely my favorite moment of the celebration. Mike Elias taking a hit off the Homer Hose was also great. Still smiling.
It took him forever to get out there, the pile kept moving away from him. Hilarious!

It's FINALLY happening! Will be interesting to see what Harris and his group can do to win the fans back and get a new stadium built. It's hilarious that fans are planning a victory parade.

At this point, Big Papi is just a caricature of himself. Less Big Papi Draft Kings ads, more Justin Tucker Royal Farms ads! That dude is hilarious.

Would he be known as "The Admiral"?

I've already lost the Bullets and Redskins names in hoops and football, along with a bunch of time-honored baseball traditions (I'm looking at you, interleague play... haha). Like some others on here, I love the song because it immediately takes me back to the glory days in the Old Gray Lady of 33rd Street in the late '70s and early '80s. Would hate to lose yet another reminder of that era.

We saw the Hebrew Hammer tonight
Funny, my wife and I have been referring to him as the Hebrew Hurler the last couple of years. Terrific performance last night.

Eh, they’re just entertainment. And they’re good for getting a chip on your shoulder.
When I was a kid, there were about 5-6 magazines that would come out with their predicted standings in the spring. No math or science behind it, just some writer’s wild-ass guess. But they were fun to read. And probably not much more inaccurate than Pecota, ZiPS, etc.
Street & Smith's baseball yearbook used to be the Bible in my house all summer long.

Will always remember him as the middle of the formidable "BOB" bullpen, as Demper used to refer to the Brach/O'Day/Britton combo to close out games.

JJ had just about the best internal clock of any SS I've seen recently. Always seemed to know just how much time he had to make a play and if he needed to hurry a throw.

Cakes was tempting due to our current needs, but I went with Frank. Besides being the middle-of-the-order stick we need, he'd also bring all of the intangibles needed to push a young team to the top, something he'd already proven.

Just need to hang around. Playing Captain Obvious here but just don’t get buried. Even if they only split the next two. At some point they will need to get hot and it’s likely at this point they need a team to fall back but I expected that anyway.
You have a 6-2 stretch and a team you are chasing goes 3-5 you pick up 3 games in about a weeks time.
Agree with this 100%. The old expression "don't lose the same game twice" applies here, maybe doubly-so since it was a twin bill.

Not sure how to post pictures on here, but I updated the profile pic for Griffey's trip to Minute Maid. We didn't get the W and the sweep on Sunday but all had fun anyway!

The game this Sunday at Minute Maid Park is "Dog Day", so my wife and I will be trekking to Houston along with the little guy in my profile pic for his first MLB action! He's already got his O's collar and bandana, and we'll be bringing his own little home run chain to use as needed. Hopefully he'll get to wear it, although with the Astros shuffling their rotation it looks like Verlander will now start on Sunday, so we'll see. Let's go O's!!!

It would be awesome if they had a number two starter named "Desist."
If they did, then they could pray for "Cease and Desist and three days of mist...."

I noticed the same. I was hoping Hyde would at least ask the umpires to check.
He did the same routine in his last start against us in June.

The Worst Experience I’ve Ever Had at a Game the O’s Won (By Far)

Sorry to hear about that, Frobby. We went last night and splurged a little on tickets (3rd row behind O's dugout) and parking (Garage C, which is attached to the ballpark) since it was my wife's first game at Nats Park. Coming up from Northern VA we hit a ton of traffic getting to and crossing the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, but after that we got to the park relatively quickly and were in our seats 1/2 hour before first pitch. Didn't really feel like waiting in line for a specialty food item so we just went through their basic food line and got a grilled sausage, which was awful (not sure what I got heartburn from, the sausage or Kimbrel's performance). Traffic getting out of the garage after the game and onto 395 was a bit of a nightmare, too.
As mentioned, the game drove all of us nuts, but we enjoyed the O's fans taking over the ballpark and were happy/relieved with the final score. My wife gave the stadium good reviews, but it just feels like such a blah environment, nothing really special or unique about the design or atmosphere.
