  1. Irvin wasn't upset at being removed. He was a total pro about it. That's all I need to know.

#19 took me back in time to another crafty lefthander from the halcyon days...

  2. It’s a team game. The O’s are 5-2 since his call up. They are getting wins while he is going through the “getting his feet wet” process. Very few big leaguers rake from the get-go so this is just part of the process.

My first taste of Orioles' playoff baseball was as a 7 year old in 1966. Cried myself to sleep the night they lost to the Mets in '69. Rejoiced in '70, and have deeply hated the city of Pittsburgh since October of '71. As a kid didn't know how spoiled I was. '79, '80, and '82 were a kick in the teeth, but '83 was meant to be. Then came the dark years when we meandered between miserable and mediocrity (even the Why Not '89 team was so so TBH). '95 and '96 were nice, but should have been better, same for 2014 and 2016.

Now we're in 2023 and we have playoff baseball again after 7 long years in the wastelands. And I can't take it. I'm in my mid '60s and have to turn off the television even with a five run lead. I love 'em but I hate 'em.

I could have written this word for word except I was 8 years old in 1966!

  4. The Orioles have been in the postseason 14 times. The average Win-Loss after 84 games is 50.5 - 33.5.

Six times they were better than 49 - 35 and six times they were worse. This year’s record is the same as 2016.

It’s a low time time right now but I’m keeping the faith.

  5. Admittedly, I’m just an old Strato-Matic manager from the 1970s, but I was thinking the other day about the notion of Mateo taking over the late inning defensive outfielder, pinch runner position McKenna now fills. Gunnar at SS except for spot starts for Mateo. I’m not sure of Mateo’s defense in the outfield but recall they tried him a bit in spring training out there.

I seriously doubt they would know my game history considering I always used cash. I did try to keep my ticket stubs over the years, though I doubt I have all of them. My 1st time in Camden Yards, I ended up sitting next to a Yankees scout who tried to tell me and my friend how good Ricky Ledee was going to be. I wonder if that scout is still in the business lol.

Goodbye Montana. You are killing the Orioles. Just kidding. I hope you are having a good time in Baltimore. One more game, a loss and then back to winning.

Push in all your chips boys! Angels money line tomorrow is +110 and I’m gonna be there!

Odds are not great that I die in a plane crash on the way home Wednesday so I’d stay away from that one.

  8. Sorry everyone. I’ve now been to 6 games in Baltimore (1 on 33rd and 5 at OPACY) and they’ve won 1 of them. Maybe I should catch an early morning flight back to Montana for all our sake.

I know it’s 1 of 162 but it was frustrating to see the lineup put out for a crowd of 36,000+.

Don’t piss off the Duttons and end up at the train station.😉

Good one! I’ve heard The Wire captures Baltimore’s aura. Yellowstone, except for the scenery, isn’t even close. Having said that, I’m a fan of the show. I live five blocks from the Capitol; I’ll pop in and tell Governor Dutton you say hello.

LP Steamers in Locust Point for a true Baltimore crabhouse  Are you renting a car?

I’m taking the Light Rail right from BWI to essentially the front door of the Days Inn. Where I live Uber isn’t a thing but I have downloaded the app if I want to get away from the Ballpark area.

You're catching a series.  I would definitely eat in Little Italy one night while you are in.  I would also say Boog Powells is not only one of the best foods in the Park, but it's arguably one of the best values as well.

And call the ticket office in advance of your trip and see if anyone will hook you up in advance.  I used to switch games with my season ticket package and they were always pretty easy to work with.

Lastly, Montana is one of 4 states I have not been in.  I understand it is quite beautiful.  Welcome and good luck with your trip.

Boog’s is a must! I had it all four days when I came in 1992. Does he still cook at some games? Yes, Montana is beautiful. And relatively quiet. I’ve lived here all of my 65 years and never take it for granted.

  12. I’m traveling to Baltimore from Montana for the Pirates and Angels series. I last visited when OPACY first opened in 92. Any suggestions on how to get the best seats as  the ticket websites show the good spots as unavailable (would love one game right behind home plate and on TV there always seems like empty seats). Also, best pregame hangouts around the stadium…I’m staying at the Days Inn a couple blocks from Camden Yards. Thank you. And yes my screen name is a nod to the late great #19 Dave McNally.
