It’s one of those random things sportswriters come up with.  I didn’t know “first 89 games” was a significant interval.

Such statistics remind me of this scene from Mr. Baseball -

Oh Major League II, no wonder I didn't remember it.

Major League II did have one redeeming factor - it featured a brand new Camden Yards, without the big hotel blocking the view.

  3. If there's any truth to the off-season improvement plan the club is putting him on, a good part of me is curious to see how that fares before releasing him. Elias seems like he's a little more tuned into the show than Duquette was, so I imagine the fire Elias ignites under Davis' rear end will burn a lot hotter than Dan's, who likely didn't even light one in the first place, and possibly bear fruit.

And that's my rub. It's clear Hyde is either unpolished or can't control his emotions....or worse - both. He's supposed to be a leader of men and he comes across as a hothead. I've listened to enough of his post game pressers and he's more likely to spout off and throw the *totality* of the team under the bus. And that rubs me the wrong way from a leader.

What about his response makes him seem unpolished or poor at controlling emotions? He acknowledged the incident, tried to turn down the heat a bit and didn't call anyone out. What should he have said instead?

I'm not sure if it's in the defense of Davis, or just the kind of people that are so fragile that they see any truthful semi-negative comment as being "hurtful" thus to them, Hyde is a bully and not a good leader.

Hyde has supported his players through and through, but he's not going to hurt his credibility by going out and blowing smoke up our butts when it comes to things that need to improve, like the talent on this team, particularly on the pitching side.

I concur. It's been refreshing to have a straight forward, candid guy at the helm. I liked Buck a lot, but he did a significant amount of that smoke blowing you mentioned. Hyde's been a great change of pace, and he's certainly been a hell of a lot better than our previous rookie managers.

I remember when we thought Larry Bigbie and Luis Matos were emerging stars.  But Santander has definitely earned regular playing time and some slack if/when he falls into a slump.

Sports Guy loooovvvvveeeeddd Matos. And John Stephens.

I'm surprised the Orioles haven't tried using openers this year. You have to try something different when you only have three viable ML starting pitchers on the roster.

The bullpen's been just as terrible, if not more so. We'd probably be in worse shape if we employed the opener approach.

Bundy is the only one that really gets me down. Maybe Cobb a little too, but Bundy was supposed to be an Orioles ace. He’d have at the very least been relegated to the bullpen on any other team.

Most of the pitchers get me down, mainly because a good deal of them are supposed to be established major league pitchers - i.e. they don't apply to the whole "bad because the team is rebuilding" thing. It's freakin' ridiculous just how freakin' terrible they've been.

  9. At the very least the team is doing well with scoring runs, something with which last year's team struggled mightily. As a result, the games have been a lot more enjoyable on that level. If the pitching ever starts to come around the team may actually be able to put together a decent season.

He was booed relentlessly last night. It really makes me sick. I guess fans can blame him for the results on the field, but boos should be for the opponent, not our own team. Earlier in the day Chris and his wife helped sponsor the Casey Cares walk, and a few hours later he’s booed off the field? It’s disgusting behavior from the home fans and I would like to think we’re above that!

    Maybe they were saying "Boo-urns."

    Serious question.

You folks know I don't watch the local media.

Has anyone straight out asked Buck how long this can go on with Davis performing this way?  Really pressured him (or Dan for that matter) on the subject?

If not, how can they not?  It's a third of the way though the season, it's becoming a national story.

You know how Orioles' pitchers often "nibble" with their pitches? That's pretty much how the Baltimore media is when it comes to questioning Showalter. Even if they did challenge him, Buck's answer would likely be dismissive.

I'm getting a ton of tax money back

I made out well on my refund, too. I meant that the money I get paid out for my vacation days will get taxed like crazy. If what I got taxed on a bonus late last year is any indication I'll lose at least 45% of the money to the government. Sure, it's still a nice chunk of change and some of it will come back to me when I do taxes in 2019, but it still bites.

  13. Ugh! Have to cash in all of my vacation time because another company bought us, and they won't let me take my 350 hours with me. And I just know I'm going to be taxed out the rear end.
