Well, if you can get him for less, great…but there will be a lot of teams going after him and you aren’t getting him for what are basically scrap heap guys.

I initially read Stowers as Cowser. But yeah I would trade Stowers for this.

I’m not trading Mayo for a rental.

Erod has three years left on his contract, he can opt out next year, but maybe he wouldn't on the Orioles?

Okay, maybe Ortiz, McKenna, and say Watkins gets him because of the threat of an opt out?

I would make a play for Eduardo Rodriguez and then have Wells out of the bullpen in the 2nd half.

Rodriguez is the one pitcher who looks like he could match up with any team’s ace.

I would consider Hall or Westburg in a deal.

I like going after E-Rod. I would create a package around Mayo, Ortiz, and McKenna

I think Elias is going to count on Means as his big deadline addition and not trade any major prospect, especially not for a rental. Especially if the team keeps winning at anything resembling its current pace, I suspect he'll be reluctant to mess with what's working. We have yet to see him make any real aggressive moves, so why start now if the plan is working?

I agree with this. He isn't going to bet the farm he just finished rebuilding right when it starts paying off.  However, I could see deals for supplemental arms - bullpen and high minors guys.

I think the biggest tradebait the Orioles have right now are Watkins, Ortiz, and McKenna.  I think they get traded in a package for pitching support and high-minors guys. bullpen arms for the stretch-run.

I wish there was better manager strategy, like walking Judge.  I know the Bautista wanted to show he can get Judge out and that he was not scared of him.  Judge gets paid $350 mil to beat you and Bautista wanted to prove he was not afraid of Judge, but it caused a heart wretching loss.

Walking Judge makes Rizzo (another guy on an absolute tear) the game-winning run with a single swing. Bautista struck out the side, he made one mistake to one of the best hitters of the last couple of years. He didn't miss it, it happens.

Bautista had the yips for a couple outings but has since been pretty alright, it was our best vs their best, sometimes the other team wins that battle.

The second that heinous Rockies uniform was placed first was the end of that article for me. lol

Uniforms are always in the eye of the beholders. Personally, I find these drab and boring. But the people that make these decisions are always worried about virtue signaling vs creating an actual good looking uniform. The Orioles have great colors in black and orange. Ditching the orange is a mistake in my opinion.

I'll be honest though, most of these uniforms have been awful. Not "Turn Ahead the Clock" awful, but not going to sell a lot of copies except to those extreme fans that want every jersey bad.  So far the only ones I

I've liked are the Mariners and Reds.

See I find the Reds' jersey nearly illegible. But to each their own.

I’m reading on Twitter that people who live outside the city “just don’t get” how great these unis are for people who do live in the city.

I think its more "they made an attempt to make deep-cut references to the city and not the Baltimore area" Like, the whole pastel colored neighborhood thing is a direct reference to those maps  - one in particular is in like half of city classrooms and the colors they chose for the collar and cuffs is a direct call to that as well as Graffiti Alley (attached) which is its own little deep-cut local thing that makes cameos in every Baltimore rapper music video, hosts a lot of art-and community- and music stuff and is definitely a "if you know, you know," reference.

you can clearly see the influence in the colors there.

The thing is, it is a uniform as a metaphor - which I get and is cool and all, but I'm not sure it works as a jersey so much. They shot their shot, I get what they were trying to do it doesn't entirely work for me but I don't hate it.

From what it seems, it looks like Nike came up with the slogan and they had him write around it.  At least, that's my interpretation from this article:

    https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/37704283/baltimore-orioles-city-connect-uniforms

The uniform also features the slogan "You Can't Clip These Wings" -- a melody created by Baltimore-based poet and author Kondwani Fidel meant to embody the city's perseverance. To coincide with the uniform reveal, Fidel wrote a poem with the uniform's slogan.

Oh wait - that was a line from Fidel's "The Origin," that he performed before opening day a couple years ago. Okay no I like this better then. It feels a bit corny stripped of the context of Fidel's original work.

Shouldn't the AP tests be over by now?  I recall them not being this late way back when I took them.

You aren't actually making them do stuff after the exam are you?  It was movie time for us back in the day.

The last two weeks have been: Monday: assignment posted, its due Friday.

This weeks assignment is making history themed memes/ tik toks.

    we're basically chilling.

My honors class is finishing up their outside literature/ historiography assignments this week. Next week is review for finals. AP has no final because they took the test.

The flag is the coat of arms of the person the city is named after.  So there is a connection.

Only the checkerbaord portion is the Baltimore colors. the red and white Crossland banner is the was the coat of Calvert's Mother's family. The original flag was this seal on a blue field - think your run of the mill state flag. Upon the outbreak of the civil war, Union supporters began to recognize the "Baltimore colors" as their banner and confederate traitors adopted the red and white crossland banner to ID themselves (as red was considered rebel colors). That distinction and adoption was largely arbitrary. And Union soldiers from MD out numbered Confederate soldiers by at least 3 to 1 - its connection to the south is some deep cut confederate stuff.

The current flag was adopted at the turn of the 20th to symbolize the "two sides, coming together." then in the 30s pro-confederate screed "Maryland, my Maryland" was adopted as the state song. But since then any recognizeable ocnnection to the CSA has largely been forgotten by the general public.

But if you see anyone in MD flying a crossland banner - and nothing else. That is some deep cut racist nonsense.

Honestly reviewing them all in that link I think the uni gets a little bit of a bad rap. It’s not great but it’s not the worst on that list. The Giants ones are really awful. Not sure why the Reds would be considered any better than these.  All the Dodgers really did was replace ‘Angeles’ with ‘Dodgers’ basically.

Obviously these rankings mean literally nothing, just pointing out that these are pretty much on par with the rest (other than the Rockies - those are truly awesome). I also dig the Angels uni which they have ranked pretty low.

And they didn't even do it right - it should read Los DOYERS!

These aren't great, but they are way better than the San Fran jerseys and the Wrigleyville jerseys.

    Steroids.

Seriously though, l believe the starting pitching is better, along with the bullpen. Obviously there's a lot of talent in the MiL's that could potentially reinforce the team this season, or be used for trade.

I remember Javy went down with an injury on that team. That kind of thing is unpredictable.

I think the Minors are the big thing right here. 2005 they got off to a great start and just couldn't sustain it and there were no reinforcements.

  15. I do love the fact they got Kondwani Fidel to do this poem again. I appreciate the way the org has really embraced the city - all of the city - the last few years by inviting local artists and really trying to better tie stadium into the feel of the city in general. '

the neighborhood map/ graffiti alley color scheme is a deep-cut Baltimore reference that is really a "if you know you know," thing.

  16. I don't hate them - I'm just underwhelmed.

The entire kit - black  on black with the white belt - that is a solid look. The sleeves are cool and I "get it" the whole metaphor of "people only see one thing but underneath its this vibrant thing,"- I like that message.

I honestly don't like the hat, I don't think the B works as a hat.
