You're not doing any surgical procedure, or something minor right before your job starts. Also, since he's been sick through much of camp, this wouldn't appear elective in any way. IMO, what was thought of to be flu related is now at least suspected to be something else. And from the tone of the news, and the quotes from the teammates, I'd think it has the potential to be serious. I hope things turn out ok for him.

Re: Hyde - I think there is validity to different management styles. Some might want to say things out in the dugout to send a message/teach/etc. Others might like to keep the criticism away from the camera, or out of the open. And it's pretty fair to say that both ways can be effective. I have no problem with Hyde over this.
However - I don't think going after the manager and having to be physically restrained is an acceptable response. No matter what was said (and it had to be pretty rough to cause that reaction). Still - that can't be how you handle the situation. And I'm not sure leaving the ballpark (or being unavailable after the game?) helps your position either. Not a good night for Davis.

Yes. Multiple sinkholes. And the heavy rains this week didn't help repairs. No word or when Light Rail is expected to reopen.

And with other teams racing us to the bottom, there may be more attractive options out there than Givens (or Mancini, Villar).
I bet Givens goes. I see Villar as a toss-up. I think Mancini stays. Low level prospects as the return.

Just evaluating the inventory as we wait for better days...

I suspect Eshelman and a roller coaster ride of relievers. But they haven't said.
Good luck watching that! (And stay cool!)

Haha. Two guys making a combined 1M, verses another making 23M a year through 2022. Can you see a difference?
Plus - one is a former All-Star, Silver Slugger and 2x HR champ, while the other two are still sipping their "cup of coffee" at the MLB level. Or let's get philosophical - I suspect some see his precipitous decline as a parallel to the decline of the club overall, and give him extra attention. But yes... absurd.
That said, I wouldn't miss any of the three.

I agree - the shirt snafu was annoying.
That said - it was nice seeing everyone again. And a nice night for baseball, despite the boxscore. Thanks Tony & company!

Why were we crazy for the guys Elias signed on July 2nd. None were top rated players. None were big dollar signings.
We were enthused that the club signed J2 guys at all. Because we haven't. In years. You know that. And you know that it's more the laying groundwork rather than the actual guys signed. (And we won't know if any of those guys overachieve for years anyway... )
Your call for Elias to be fired over this trade is ridiculous. After Cashner's poor work last year, and his questionable advanced stats this year, and the fact that's he's a rental... you're not going to get anything flashy for him. Don't like the trade? Sure. I can agree with that. Calling for Elias to be fired? Wow... quite the "hot take".

My current peeve is lose vs. loose... It's not that difficult.
(And I can't believe this thread is still around. LOL)

Ugh! Why can't the Jays, Yanks and TB lose!?!?! To be fair they are probably saying the same thing about us
Silver lining, Red Sox lose again.
This. It was even worse when we were on the west coast, and Toronto/NY had won before we even took the field. And yet.... so far, so good.

Even though we weren't in the thick of things with the rest of you Section 8 HangerOuters, we had a great time. I'm reallllllly hoping the O's "BUCKle up" some ticket promos for the Blue Jays series. We'll get a babysitter and stay the whole game!!
Witchy
Didn't know about this plan. I heartily endorse this idea!
Yeah, despite not having a chance to chat with many people, it was a great night at the yard, and it was really nice seeing everyone again. Hope we can all do it again sometime soon.

I've mentioned in other places, but I'm currently "cursed". I have a decent collection of Orioles gear, but can't wear any of it because when I do, they lose. And I'm not going to be the one to jinx things. (I'll let Witchy do that). So O's shirts for me for at least another few weeks... /grumble

Gah! Witchy and I bought tickets already before hearing about this. Hope to be able to wander by and say hello, at least.

An O's sweep... no-hitter into the 8th.... Yankees lose again, 0-3.... Boston melts down in extras, 0-3.... and MASN shows game 162 from last year as a nightcap. Yeah, pretty good day of baseball. :thumbsup1:

Sometimes... just sometimes... I wish a baseball season could be 3 games long....

What was I thinking back in 2007?? Geez.

Different rant...
So let me get this straight... you build an entire marketing campaign for your TV sports talk show around the fact that the host is brash, obnoxious, and "doesn't know what he's going to say next"? Really??
Every time I see the commercial I cringe - I'd never even imagine wasting time to tune in such a jerk as marketed in this ad. I hope in "real life" he's not that bad, but it's something I'm never going to bother to find out. Just everything I dislike in sports talk... bleh.
-
Will dig around and see if it's something on our end....
(so much more fun to blame MASN for the shoddy production. Just like their start-up "old days". /sigh)
Thanks for the heads-up.

Yeah, saw him too... sweet tickets for what turned out to be a great game!

What on earth is up with MASN's crowd mics? WAY too loud... grrrrrrrr. Finally get MASN2HD and can't hear what's being said. (Of course, that's not always a bad thing for some of the announcing crew...)

The sleep patterns of our 10 month old.
And the blossoming stubbornness of our older daughter. (She gets that from her mother.)
And bad drivers always make the list.
O's ranting was already done in the main forum, though the offseason's young. If early trends are any indication, there'll be plenty more opportunity for that...

Spring/summer colds. Bleh. Glad my daughter is feeling better, but I really didn't need to experience this lingering misery first-hand. Bleh, bleh.

The "Mendoza Line"... and the fact that so many of our hitters are struggling to overcome it...
Depressing baseball being offered up by the club right now. I feel sorry for the SPs who are actually doing fairly well. Ugh.
Prayers and good thoughts for weams (Update: Weams has passed on after watching the O's beat the Yankees)

Like everyone else, I'm very saddened by the news. Tracey and I always felt a kind of kinship with Michael and Denise considering some of the similarities in our O's fandom over the years. Through Hangout Nights, tales of Spring Training trips and lots of conversations through good Orioles times and bad, I learned how genuinely kind and thoughtful Weams and JustD truly are.
I was fortunate enough to be invited up for a visit over the summer, and shared a lunch and stories with Michael, and later he and Denise told me all about the epic cross-country RV trip. We talked a little music and O's of course, and I'm just thankful I got a chance to spend some time with these dear friends before the end. The Orioles comeback win seems like a fitting send-off for him to see.
Denise - I think we've already mentioned it in social media posts, but Tracey and I send our condolences to you and the family. Rest in peace Michael.
