I'll continue to say, and mean it...Kevin Brown is the best young baseball announcer in the game. He's also the best PBP man the Orioles have had on TV since Jon Miller. You dont have to agree. But he is. In my opinion.Prepared, great voice, funny when necessary, and very very knowledgable.Palmer returns Monday in the Angels series in Anaheim. Also a great broadcast team...

Couldn’t agree more and he’ll only get better.  Would really like Rubenstein to extend him.

Elias in his press conference yesterday was clear that if people are doing well and crushing AAA they will force their way into MLB.  If he has another good start he is up.  They have AAAA people at end of bullpen.

I would suspect Elias would want to see more than 4 good starts before promoting Povich, especially given his history of control issues.

Well to be fair, it's pretty strange to send him down to "work on hitting against LHP" and then turn around and bring him up after 10 games.

I think they realized they effed up. Sig's computer malfunctioned.

I think they wanted to get through this stretch of lefties, so it was intentional.  That said, I don’t get the Kemp signing.  I would’ve kept Nevin to DH against the lefties.

  4. Lucky enough to live in the path of totality and it was a clear day.  I have to say, it was amazing.  I did not get the hype until I experienced it.  Took a photo with my iPhone.

I wouldn’t travel to see it but glad it came to me.  😀

It seemed like we saw more and more O’s fans invading enemy territory throughout the 2023 season and I expect that trend to continue in 2024.

The first road series of the year is a short 4-hour drive from Camden Yards.  Hopefully we see a large contingent of O’s fans make the trip to Pittsburgh.

I’ll be there Saturday and possibly Sunday.  Who else is going?

While the result was disappointing, the presence of O’s fans on Saturday was impressive.  That’s the 9th road ballpark I’ve seen the O’s play in and it was the loudest pro-O’s crowd I’ve seen.

    BTW, PNC Park is fantastic.

My crystal ball says Means comes back, puts in 15-20 starts then gets hurt again.

Bradish ends up getting TJ surgery because when he starts throwing breaking balls his elbow doesn't like it.

I’m mostly with you.  I do think Means will end up on the IL at some point after he returns but I think it will be something he comes back from in-season.

If Bradish wasn’t so dependent on his slider I’d feel better about his chances.  But I agree - once he starts throwing that with intensity the elbow issue will return.

  7. This was top 3 in my lifetime, along with ‘89 and ‘92.  Part of what made those other two so special in retrospect is how those days seemed to set a tone for those seasons.  Hopefully this season will play out so that Opening Day will be remembered as part of a larger story.

I don’t think there’s any doubt but plenty of people don’t feel Boras will “allow it”.

The point is, for daddy to be bringing this up, it tells me that he would sign one.

That’s not the way I interpreted it.  He brought up the Chourios extension and also said if there was no free agency he would be on the team.  I didn’t read that as indicating an openness to an extension.

    BORAS IS THE EMPLOYEE!

    There is no let.

Agree with “no let.”  But I think that players who hire Boras do so because they agree with him philosophically.  If Holliday or Gunnar were more inclined to sign an extension they probably would have hired a different agent in the first place.

No argument here. Nevin over Holliday is a joke. Holliday can help this team RIGHT NOW. We're trying to win a WS RIGHT NOW. Is he really going to leave him down just to net an extra two months or so of service time? It just seems crazy to me.

The alternative is he's down only a month, but then he could still finish top 2 in ROY and just like that you lost a month of service time instead of gaining.

I get everyone's anger...I felt the same way when I heard the news.  And I am concerned the O's aren't going to gain any service time anyway, so might as well have him on the roster even if he struggles early on to get the draft pick.

That said, I get the logic of having Nevin on the team at the start of the season.  Nevin does have a career .798 OPS against lefties and they are facing a ton early.  Holliday did not look good against lefties in the spring.  For a team wanting to win NOW, this actually does feel like they are maximizing their chances.

I would be surprised if Nevin is on the roster very long.  I mean Vavra, Stowers, and Gillaspie were all on the early April roster last year.

Now if Nevin is still on the roster in May I may join the masses!

Not saying it will ever happen but if I was running a team I would go back in time. I would air 20-25 games on local TV. The Orioles did this on WJZ until a couple of years ago. It helps to keep more fans connected to the team. It’s not like you will lose customers of RSN/streaming either.

I believe some NBA teams are doing this in response to the RSN mess.  With cord-cutting teams desperately need reach and this is still the best way to do it.

At the very least, it's a strong inflation hedge with a strong moat (congressionally-granted antitrust exemption) and a LONG history of growth (i.e., 150+ years)

This, plus this particular franchise has a lot of unrealized revenue potential.  There is risk with the hazy future of local TV revenue but I don’t think the O’s have been creative or aggressive at all in building their revenue base.

Any chance this affects whether MASN becomes available on streaming platforms like Youtube TV? I've been wondering whether MASN's avoidance of streaming services was due to general strategy or part of an existing deal with one of the big providers.

I think this is more of a strategy of the streaming services to keep costs down.  They do have a few RSNs but they mostly seem to be owned (or partially owned) by Fox/NBC, who negotiate them in as part of a package deal.

  14. My hope is that this ownership group looks for ways to increase revenue.  There are lots of ways to do that beyond increasing prices - better leveraging being part of the nation's 3rd largest media market is one way.  Creating a better fan experience is another.  "Camden Crossing" or whatever the redevelopment could be another.  A streaming version of MASN could be another.

I never got the sense that the Angelos family was business-savvy.  They made their money through lawsuits, not running businesses.

The Chiefs are the new patriots. They don’t do things to beat themselves in the big moments.

Zay probably doesn’t even have to give there.  He probably could just put his head down, cover up the ball and run through those guys. I get why he dove there but you put the ball at risk. You try to do too much.

They really are...and I think Reed has a chance to be in the conversation for GOAT coach if he sticks around for the full Mahomes era.  Unlike Belichick he has some strong results without a HOF QB.  And his NFL coaching tree is more impressive.

I was looking today at Milwaukee and Minnesota, which could have been in WS.  The high in Minneapolis next Tuesday is supposed to be 32.  Both cities have several days next week in the low 40’s.  And those are the high temperatures, not what it will be at 8 pm-11 pm.

I don’t see this happening anytime soon but I could see MLB eventually making the World Series a neutral site, week-long event in a warm or climate-controlled environment.   It may be necessary if they keep adding rounds to the playoffs.  😂

An all wild card WS ponts out the increasing irrelevance of the 162 game season.  An 84 win team gets hot at right time.  Sad.  More and more NBA like.

Except it’s rare for the lowest seed in the NBA playoffs to make it to the Finals.  This is now two straight years for MLB.

MLB is becoming a worse version of the NHL playoffs.

  18. I’ve thought about this too, along with the fact that they outperformed their Pythagorean by so much and they were pretty healthy.  I think the front office is banking on internal improvements in other areas - I think there’s a lot of unrealized upside next year with Holliday, Gunnar, Mullins, and perhaps even Adley.
