My lord. Someone tell Hyde that the rebuild is over and it’s ok to play your best players.

I am also a big soccer fan. I follow Manchester City, who by all accounts employ one of the greatest managers the game has ever seen. One of the things that makes him great is that he always fields his best team, without exception, unless there is an injury or fitness issue. He wins game after game and the players either adapt to his system or they find the exit. In no world would he ever field a player, regardless of age or experience who was objectively weaker than the ostensible replacement. Watching Brandon Hyde make lineups is like watching ineptitude being rewarded. I cannot fathom why this last lineup against the Twins was made. Why you routinely start weaker players. We are scuffling and our poor decisions are catching up to us.

It is unconscionable that we keep running Mateo and Frazier out there day in and day out. Westburg, Ortiz, and Cowser have proven themselves. Let them play, they have earned it. This goes beyond baseball, this is almost becoming a moral dilemma. What else do these players have to do? Why keep driving your Ford Pinto when you have a brand new car with no miles waiting in the garage? I agree with other posters, this team could crumble quickly without an injection soon.

That’s a fair point. I took his comments at face value but I suppose there may be more to the decision. I am simply baffled at letting these guys rot at the expense of Mateo and Frazier who simply aren’t producing at levels necessary for a playoff caliber team. My frustration is boiling over. They aren’t THAT young anymore as far as prospects go.

Long time lurker. First time poster but this really shakes me. You have to play Ortiz and let him take his lumps. He has proven himself at the AAA level. We know exactly who Mateo and Frazier are. They have shown us. We should believe them. It’s time to give Ortiz a shot NOW so that he can make the adjustments and be where he needs to be in October. I have now lost faith in Hyde.
