It's bad, and it will continue to be bad, but somewhat in our defense, we have played all 9 games against the #1 (NYY) and #3 (TOR) home run teams in the AL last year.

TOR might have the worst offense in baseball right now.

That is something that could happen if it caught the fancy of the internet.

Would solve the issue of what Oriole went.

To me the question is, would Davis go if voted in?

I honestly think it would be great if he got voted in.

  3. If Davis was a light hitting SS with gold glove defense it would be an easier pill to swallow (contract aside) but he's taking up a position that's reserved for offense. Basically, great hitters that can't play defense, usually end up at 1st or DH. Having the pitcher bat for himself is an upgrade. That's depressing.

I  assume that his contract says that he can't be sent to the minors but why wouldn't he ask to go in an attempt to get sorted out? Better to make a fool of yourself in Bowie than nationwide.

He could even buy all the tickets so nobody attends the games to see him struggle.

When I was maybe 10 to 12, playing unorganized baseball (we didn't have any organized ball, other than in school), the supreme compliment to a batter was for the defense to say to the OFs, "Sink out, heavy hitter." That gave rise, to "Sink in, lousy hitter." Since boys are always looking to ratchet up the insults (and somewhere in there Eddie Feigner's four-man softball team showed up on Wide World of Sports), that led to OFers sitting down or gathering in one spot and talking among themselves, not because they wanted to but just to try to make the batter feel bad. (I was in neither category, but if the other team had moved the LF and CF in so they were backing up the SS hole and the 2B bag, they would have taken away the majority of my hits.) I don't think "adjustments" was in our baseball vocabulary.)

I've thought about that often when Davis came up last season and especially this year in ST. Are there guys in the field thinking stuff like "It's hot out here. I could use some water," or "This would be a good time to pee" or "I wish I could use this break in the action to make a few phone calls," figuring that they wouldn't be missed since odds of Davis both making contact and hitting the ball to them are so small.

Seriously though, I wonder if we'll ever see more unorthodox shifts against him. Especially with the game on the line. You don't really need 4 infielders when he's up as he rarely hits the ball on the ground to the left side, if ever.

Are opposing teams even bothering to shift against him?

And Davis does not have the speed to steal bases with any consistency.

They are probably going to put 3 infielders behind the catcher in case of wild pitches on strike three.

So let me get this straight, if they had let him finish the inning and taken him out after 7, you wouldn't be complaining just as loudly?   Honestly,.

I don't believe I'm complaining loudly. Just giving an opinion.

  8. I think he should have given him an opportunity to finish the inning and then reevaluate. Considering he stretched out Givens yesterday, I would have thought he might have done the same with Hess. Anyway, not a huge deal. The kid pitched great and most importantly,  gave the pen some relief. Now, hopefully they can win.

I mentioned in another thread that the bullpen is the strongest part of this team. I think it could be good not just in relation to the rest of the team, but in general. The problem is the pen is likely going to get run down substantially unless there is a lot of movement between Norfolk and Baltimore or the starters really overperform.

Kind of off topic but I was looking at the wealth of young arms the Braves have. Is there anything that we have that could entice them to move one or two of those arms? They are going for it so maybe if they suffer an injury of some type they'd be more open to moving some young pitching. I was just wondering if we matchup anywhere.

I would have preferred him not thrown that many pitches on a back to back this early, but I'm not going to gripe about it, we'll see if it's a trend or a one off.

It could be a trend if nobody else steps up. With that said, the rest of the pen looked good with the exception of Bleier this weekend.

Has his swing and batting stance changed since last season?  I haven't seen him but if everything is the same I would say he isn't trying.

I watched 1 game. He wasn't watching the ball at all, just swinging and hoping to make contact. The phillies announcers made a comment along the lines of how badly he was missing the pitch. Even the pitches he took, he didn't follow the path of the baseball with his eyes.
