I don’t think any of the upper end prospects would be a “surprise.”
Yeah, the Orioles have been real talented about turning upper end prospects into "sure things" over the last 25 years.

Going with Hays as the player that’s going to drag this team to the finish. Hunter Harvey is going to settle in as a real nice closer by year end.

-- Extra inning rule as we have discussed. The runner is the guy in the batting order directly preceding the guy leading off the inning, with the exception that if the guy preceding is a pitcher, it is the guy before him.
Forgive me if I'm being extremely dense; why would a batter in the lineup ever be a pitcher?

Was kind of curious what the other teams were doing in terms of rosters and observed that the Royals have 19 players (of their full 60) that have no major league experience. Eleven of them have been drafted since 2017. Kind of an interesting way to structure a roster that you can't remove anyone from. Seems like the Royals might be committed to playing some first rounders this year.
Similarly, the Indians have 16 non-roster invitees and only 4 have MLB experience.
Meanwhile, all 44 players on the Orioles 60-man so far have major league experience.

I have a friendly bet that the Orioles will win more than 25 games.

44, Mancini doesn't count on the list. The Nationals released their entire 60-man list, not sure why the Orioles aren't doing the same.
Wondering what Adrian Sanchez did to the Nationals to be the only 40-man guy not invited

You think Mullins will be on there but not McKenna?

Saw the Braves signed a catcher out of Calvert Hall this week. That’s fun

I forgot the O’s are only 39 on the 40-man.

Just thinking about how many times I’m going to hear the phrase “small sample size” from Baseball Internet over the next five months

The real quiz, then, is who is our “extra 20”? Can we guess?
Pitchers: Eshelman, Leblanc, Milone, Kline, Brady Rogers, Cervenka, Blach, Hanhold, Valdez, Jannis (Alvarado, Jimenez, Mattson, Shepherd, Zastryzny, Diplan also crossed my mind)
Hitters: Valaika, Rondon, Wilkerson, Davis, Urena, Williams, Valentin, Herrera, Holaday... McCoy? (Also Diaz and Bannon as considerations)
Which four do we add to our 26-man roster? Guessing Milone, Leblanc, Williams, Valaika.

I am curious as to what Puerto Rico is like these days. I have a pal that flies his family down there on vacation frequently because it’s domestic and has nice beaches. I never even think about it as a tourist destination but I guess it is.

Curious to watch Ryan Fuller's twitter to see if we sign some of the other guys in his camp.

Huh, did I get you mixed up on Mountcastle with someone else? I thought you were the guy that's not excited over Mountcastle. If not, my apologies.
I’m not sure you think about me at all, but I’ve never been on Team Mountcastle and i have some memory of you putting me in my place about my opinion of him.

Anyway, I'm wondering how these International prospects, in places such as Venesuela, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico have been impacted by the Coronavirus outbreak. Has training/games slowed to a crawl like in many other places?
Im being nitpicky but Puerto Ricans are subject to the Rule 4 draft.

Not an easy question, and I'm not sure it's one person.
I see Chris Davis and Renato Nunez swapping time now at 1B/DH/bench with Mancini on the mend, but that's important because Mancini's absence doesn't give Davis more at bats; those will go to whatever outfielder comes up.
My current thinking is DSJ in left, Hays in center, Santander in right, Stewart off the bench. But this an extremely inflexible situation in the field; virtually no platoon advantage, poor outfield defense on its face. I truly don't see how Mason Williams is not your fourth outfielder. DSJ's and Stewart's only usefulness (if any) are redundant in this lineup.

So who is going to play SS for this team in 2023?
Tim Anderson, Xander Bogaerts, Trea Turner

I thought the Pirates traded oh wait, it wasn’t Snell... the pitcher the Pirates traded in the package for Archer, the name escapes me(haha obviously)
the point remains, I just had the name wrong.
Guarantee you were thinking Ian Snell, who pitched six seasons for the Pirates.

Was looking at the NEC and the only two major league position players so far since 2013 are Nick Dini and Ian Miller. Evan Scribner is the only player from that school in recent memory.

I know this sounds like a debbie downer.
But with these clowns unable to compromise.
There is no worry about picking the wrong SS, because people are quickly losing interest in MLB.
IMO
Maybe since no one likes baseball anymore they can take all these unused players they just signed and turn them in for a Chinese finger trap, stuffed animal, or pack of gum.
Who will be the "pleasant surprise" for the O's in 2020?

I've been disappointed enough by players that shouldn't have surprised me.
