Regular season MVP? Who?
Ahh. Didn’t say regular season. Just MVP.

IIRC, only MVP not to make an all-star game.
One of the Orioles on the list did that as well…

Whoever greenlighted this needs to be fired. I agree with @SteveA, a lot of potential for offensiveness.

Who has the better season...Cobb or Hernandez? That’ll be a fun quirk to follow
Are we taking into consideration their contract? I’d probably rather have Felix at $1m as long as he’s under a 6 ERA for this year over Cobb at $15m even at a 3ERA.

My brain immediately went to Luis Ayala.

No surprize here. ESPN, the failed Socialist sports network would come up with garbage like that. I cannot remember the time I watched ESPN, and millions of others feel the same way.
What exactly about ESPN is socialist? It always cracks me up when older people who lived through the red scare use socialism or communism as some catch all fear-trigger word for things they don’t like, despite not knowing what either word actually means. Man the US education system has failed us.

I’m as big a Markakis fan as anyone on this board, but I understand why they felt 4/$44 mm was too big a risk for a guy about to have surgery for a herniated disc. As it turns out, Nick recovered well and (per Fangraphs) produced $45.9 mm in value for his $44 mm. Basically, a break even deal. I would have liked to have his steady presence in the lineup those four years. But, hindsight is 20/20.
So ultimately a high risk and low reward deal. $1.9m surplus is pretty low reward.

You have data to back this up? Most? How many people?
Most studies have cases of this happening, not most cases. Sorry if I was unclear.

One thing to consider with this:
even a perfectly healthy, low risk player could have their career ended by getting covid 19. Most reports of patients from 6-7 months ago are showing long term repercussions to lungs. If a player ends up with a lung capacity permanently decreased by 25% that could very easily spell the end of their career.

If they’re going to do this, add 2 more teams and create a 4 team division system like the NFL. I don’t want to see 4 wild cards in the play-offs, Kinda lame.
4 division winners, 3 wild cards both leagues.

Sorry to steer you guys away from the constant debate and speculation on how we'll finish in last place this year and what players we'll be doing it with. Wanted to bring this to your attention.
I hope none of you are buying this.
I’m literally wearing my 2019 spring training cap now, I have a streak going back to 2014, I feel I must buy it to keep the streak going...

If folks have not looked into this project and the impact on the city, you're missing out. Baltimore is on the rebound.
Port Covington is literally the creation of an entirely new (and wealthy) neighborhood in Baltimore. Something most other US cities could not do. Baltimore has a ton of potential. I just hope we take the poor and working class with us when we improve and not just push the lower income people out of the city like DC did.

This is probably going to turn into a crime thread but it’s true. All we do is talk about numbers and statistics here, well the numbers don’t lie here either.
Yeah but the crime isn’t happening with much frequency around the stadiums. OPACY isn’t on the west side. But not coming to spend money downtown is only going to exacerbate the problem. The county depends on the city, they have a symbiotic relationship, so we need to look out for each other.

So they actually use Ed Smith? I was wondering if they used one of the back fields.
Yes, they generally use the main field. We went 2 years ago when the main field was being worked on and they used a back field. But I’ve been to a game every year there since ‘11 and they’ve all been main field games except the game in 17.

I've been down for Spring Training games but never GCL.
Man I can't wait to get some ceviche from Siesta Key Oyster Bar.
Be prepared to bake. Was there last week. You’ll have your pick of seats in the stadium and almost everyone just sits under the awning.

Thanks for that heads up - I'm going down on August 18th and hope to catch a couple games.
You can also bring in your own food and beverages. Concessions are generally not open for GCL games.

On a more serious note, I don't believe Rutschman's assignment has anything to do with a desire to have him play at each venue for local PR, ticket sales purposes. The GCL team is owned by the Orioles and I'm not even sure if they charge for attendance.
GCL games are in fact free to attend.

Weds game, still no Adley. Usher said it’s TBD if he’s going to play in any games here.

I don't think he's going to play in the GCL. He's just going to the complex to onboard.
Adley is atm hanging out in the bullpen at Ed Smith, so this is a real possibility.

GCL generally doesn’t play on Sundays, with 1-2 exceptions.
Typo, meant Monday.

We’ll be in Sarasota next week. Always go to a GCL game when we’re down there. Will probably go to Sunday in hopes that rutschman plays. If not, will go back on Weds to see if he plays.

Who on earth goes into the draft as a RF? I thought everyone was usually a SS or CF who was drafted high.

105.7 just interviewed some NBA writer....
They asked what he thought about Connaughton, and the guy quickly responded, "he's the greatest sleeper since rip van winkle."
He worked out for 12 teams prior to the draft, and several teams had interest.
Wave that baby bye bye.
Having watched him play his entire College career of Basketball, I feel he is good enough to stick around the NBA for a while. He's a serious competitor. I am selfishly very sad that we won't get to see him play in an O's uniform, guess I'll just hang my hopes of seeing an ND player play as an Oriole on Mancini.

No mention whatsoever of Kjerstadt and we still moved up. Crazy.
