It was a 2019 photo. I saw it on this website 2 years ago. He was nowhere near that 6'1" 170 lbs he was listed at that time.
That's why his whole game was slapping singles and drawing walks.
All his numbers are way down this year and now DeLeon plays short. I think Placencia has been relegated to 2nd.
Understand, he was standing with real 6 footers.
All those walks he drew in 2019 confirmed my impression about his height. Or he had the vision of a hawk.

Hey RZNJ. I think I can shed some light on Placencia.
I saw a 2019 group photo of 4 players during the season. Bellony looked every bit of his listed height and weight. Already muscular.
Placentia looked smaller than his listed weight and height. Not like a 17 year old professional athlete. He did slap some singles and drew plenty of walks, being so short.

Real nice day for Orioles 1. Won 11 to 4 over losing Arizona Team. Improved to 10 and 19 but some of our youngest players are finally healthy and played today.
Centerfielder Junior Lara had 2 singles, a triple, a walk and a stolen base. Now at .500/.643/.700/1.343 in only 6 games and 10 at bats. Finally healthy enough to play. Named as an important "sleeper" when BA analyzed our signing class. Got a modest $160,000. As I remember.
Right fielder Ronnie Martinez was hitless but he's healthy. Has the arm for either corner. Hitting .320/452/.360/.812. 8 games 25 at bats , 5 for 6 in stolen bases.. Martinez is another husky outfielder at 6' 185 lbs he got $275,000 during the 2019-2020 period.

He signed with Duquette in 2018 before Elias came in. Part of the 2018-2019 class.
He hit his 5th Homer's with Orioles Orange today. Definitely deserves Top 50s mention, if not inclusion.

Orioles 2 beats Orioles 1 by 5 to 1.
There are some 1st year pitchers worth watching down there. And not bonus babies either.
1st year Righthander 18 year old Ceasar Alvarez took the loss despite. 4 strong innings. Record 1-2, Era 2.17, 7 starts 29 innings 41 strikeouts. Whip 1.21.
Righthander Anthony Morillo age 19, won his first game this year. Now 1 win and 2 losses. 7 starts 27.2 innings, 2.60 ERA, 37 strikeouts, 1.19 WHIP. Did pitch 3 innings in 2019
Overall both teams are way under .500 but hey, you can't overcome years of neglect overnight.. I'm encouraged.

I'll leave you with one more name, Elio Prado. Centerfielder that Elias acquired in Andrew Casner trade. Bats leadoff.
Prospects 1500 had him ranked # 13 overall back in 2019. More of a speed and contact guy than a power hitter. More walks than strikeouts.
Covid cancelled his 2020 season. Don't no why he's out this year. I wish they would tell the fan base why players are out or injured.

Hey Chaka.
For me personally I like Moises Ramirez the Orange 3rd baseman. 19 years old, played DSL in 2019. Hitting .316 with 4 doubles, 2 triples and 4 Homer's in only 95 at bats. Missed a lot of time with injuries. Also 5 steals in 7 attempts. 6'2" 210 lbs
You would like more walks (4)and less errors (5)
Orioles Black has way more prospects. Especially outfielders, shortstop and pitchers.

I thought that kind of under the table money was illegal and got the Braves in trouble.
-
Isaac Bellony is back playing centerfield for the Orioles Orange. 2 singles 1 double today.

I noticed the Yanks go all in on one Latin every other year. $4 or $5 million for Dominguez or now Arias.
Then the following year they spread their money around like this year Hans Montero got $1.6 million and the rest for multiple signees.
I like that approach. I wish the Os would copy it if possible. The Rays seem to land a top prospect for over $3 million annually too.
I wonder if being located close to the Caribbean helps the Rays too.
I always thought being in the Southeast helped the Braves before they got suspended for cheating in 2016 or 2017.
Braves are JUST getting off suspension Jan 2022.
-
So if Braylin gets $2 million or less and Arias gets about 1 million that still leaves at least 3.2 million in their bonus pool.
It's very aggravating to see the Nationals get 2 guys on MLB.com's top 10 list when they start out with a $ 1 million less bonus than the Os.

Pitchers List ranked.Bellony the #36 prospect in the system after the 2019 season.
They remarked he had above average power and could play all 3 outfield positions.
It's kinda amazing to me I can remember this trivia but couldn't tell you what I did yeaterday.
-
I regret making that statement about a young man's livelihood and future. It was kinda cruel and heartless.
I was thinking of Gomez and Tavarez. Both are older and never had the prospect status Bellony achieved off his 2019 DSL season.
To enhance his value I just wanted to see him in the outfield if he has centerfield ability.

Isaac Bellony hit his 4th homer for Orioles Black. Bellony was considered a power/speed centerfielder coming off his 2019 DSL season. With a mature 185 lb physique.
Somehow he's being stuck on 1st base while guys with little to no future are playing the outfield.
20th round draft pick and junior college overslot Lendon Craig, played centerfield for the Black today and threw out a baserunner at home. He is 21 but tearing up the FCL offensively.
Lendon is another guy that merits top 50 consideration when Prospects 1500, Pitchers List and Tony-O make their season ending prospect lists.

I remember Celedonio was a "glove-first" shortstop and slap hitting switch hitter.
How did a slap hitter hit a homer ? Maybe inside the park job.
-
BA called center fielder Junior Lara a "sleeper" worth watching. $160,000 bonus. 6' 160lbs. Bats left throws left.
He played 1 game ,opening day I think. 2 for 5 with a steal. Hasn't played since.
Seems like there are a lot of cancellations and missing players down there this year. I wonder are they sick with Covid or suffering lengthy down time with injuries
Ronnie Martinez only started playing in the 7 days. Injured or sick ?
-
Peralta is at Norfolk. I would rather see him audition.for a bullpen job.
-
Ronnie Martinez is finally sighted.
$235,000 signing bonus in November 2019.
6', 185 lbs playing right field batting 4th for Orioles 1. 2 for 2 today. 7 for 16 overall. 3 for 4 in steals. Orioles announced 6 late 2019 signings in February 2020. Bonuses ranged from $235,000 to $10,000.
Without knowing more, I put a lot of stock on the size of the bonus.

There's a trend there. Elias likes the taller Latin shortstop that is athletic and can grow into some power
De Leon, Hernandez and Romero are in the 6'3 range.
-
Elias needed to find kids to fill his short season rosters since Duquette/Angelos left the cupboard bare.
So he got 3 shortstops in summer trades for relievers.
Noelberth Romero from the Red Sox on Orioles Orange. He also has 6 doubles and 3 homers.
Victor Gonzalez from the Mets somewhere in the DSL only 18 1st year in pro ball
De Leon from the Marlins on Orioles Black.
I really wasn't aware of how well De Leon was playing. Sounds like he is ahead of the other 2 with Maikol Hernandez coming up behind.

I saw a very interesting article, somewhere.
It turns out a single is worth 0.8 runs and a walk is worth 0.6 runs (I rounded to a whole number) Singles move the runner on 2nd to 3rd and the runner on 2nd to home.
At least that's the way winning teams look at it.
It shows that walks and OBP are a little overrated.
And as far as.slugging he pointed out that no one would prefer a homer to 4 singles. Although the slugging percentage is the same.

Yorkislandy Alvarez has been demoted to FCL and playing today, Friday for Orioles Black. Now 22, he was respectable at Delmarva but little power
Moises Ramirez is playing for Orioles Orange today at 3rd base. He should make some top 50 prospect lists after end of season. Good size, good power. Duquette signing I believe, for $200,000-225,000.
-
MLB Pipline has Os picking 2nd and taking a high school pitcher from Georgia.
They must have never watched Elias operate.
3 drafts, 65 selections. One high school pitcher, 5th round 2020.

In 2013 Or signed Carlos Diaz, Jomar Reyes and Ofelky Peralta for over $300,000 each.
We remember Reyes. Peralta is in Norfolk.
I don't have any memories of Diaz.
That was the most substantial international activity I remember until Elias in 2019.
Eutaw Street names most underrated prospect.

They named Right handed pitcher Jean Pinto.
Pretty well known to us minor league news junkies. Tony's #24 overall prospect.
I will tell you his story, again. Signed by the Angels at age 18 in 2019 for the minimum $10,000. Pitched a little in DSL in 2019
Sharp Orioles scouting acquired him as a throw-in for shortstop Iglesias.
Flew a little under the radar as righthanders under 6 feet tall are prone to do.
