This is one of those wins that feels like a tie.

I can’t hate on them too much because they were really classy when Weams passed away. But it is fun to head over there after we beat them.
Link?

Adley and baseball saving Hyde's Bacon.

I have said it here before, this offense can't manufacture a run to save their lives. They can't bunt, they can't advance runners, they can't even lift a lazy flyball out of the infield to get a run in from third. If they are not hitting bombs all over the place (and this is difficult against top pitching), they aren't scoring. They will be alright in the regular season when there's going to be a lot of bad pitching, but this is not a good sign for the postseason.
-
They should have put the squeeze on. That's how you break out of a funk. Execute and get the game at least tied. This is pathetic.

So Kimbrel getting 3 outs in 7th cost them the game?
As far as Westburg they do this every game. Switch LHH and RHH. Not like 6 in front of him are bad.
Cowser, Santander, and maybe Mountcastle are all worse hitters than Westburg at the moment, and they are all hitting in front of him.
-
Which manager has one of their top 3 hitters in the 7th spot every night?
Why are they paying big bucks to Kimbrel for him to pitch the seventh every night?

The 10th ends as a microcosm of the entire game: futility at the plate. Cano coughed it up, but we can't play 495 innings to give the offense a chance to score - at some point they have to get it done. They didn't tonight.
This offense is good, but when it is bad, it is really bad. Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde.

This team has too many black holes in the lineup right now. Cowser, Mullins, Mateo are all automatic outs. It's like having three pitcher spots in your lineup. It makes it too easy for the opposition pitchers. They can just pitch around somebody to get to them.
You can't expect your top of the order to carry the team without any support from the bottom.

Cowser over the last 15 days:
avg = .152
OBP = .273
SLG = .217
OPS= .490
K = 18 -

MFY hit a 3-run homerun to likely put it out of reach. Still in first place, though.
-
Rays score 5 runs but leave the bases loaded.
-
HBP, run scores, bases still loaded...
-
Bases full of Rays.
-
Rays' inning continues... two on for Arozarena.

The Rays are 4th in SB, so they're good enough to come back.
Absolutely an asset when you are down by 2 like they are.

TB scored 4 runs now NYY 6-4.

Apparently scoring runs several innings in a row is a real barometer for success.
It is, just not in this kind of game. Think NYY series or postseason series.
-
Can't win em all. Still took the series. Get the starters out.

This is nonsensical. Their performance has given them the second best record in the league, but also their performance isn’t good enough?
Their record is not supported by their base stealing, that's all I am saying.
It doesn't feel like this offense is solid in the fundamentals of base running and tactical hitting. The feeling is that they are mostly swinging for the fences, regardless of the situation.

Huh. We've apparently been watching different teams this season. Interesting.
Have you seen this team score single runs in several innings in a row? It's a crooked number followed by lots of zeros. I am sure someone will dig up some statistic to show they are average in this, but it doesn't feel okay following these games.
Please disregard my previous reply.

I disagree. Only anecdotal, but I call “pass the baton” pretty often in game threads

We are 10th in stolen bases per game in the Majors.
Not good enough for a team that has the 2nd best record in the Majors.

A few posters were complimentary of the Orioles. Others were really ticked off.
