And... Urias kills the rally. Gotta be feeling the pressure from Holiday/Mayo.

Or he’s just awful and couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a f’n boat…not sure why the FO is the only ones who can’t see it.

  2. Awesome day. Literally couldn’t have gone any better. Absolutely love this pic…Rubenstein meeting my favorite usher of all time. That guy is full energy and personality and seems to have been at the park forever.
Dang, new to posting after over a decade lurking around here, but it’s the bottom left picture of the four posted to the game recap.

And all I’m saying is, if your morale already needs a boost, that’s sad. I’d hate to see you after our first three game losing streak.

Morale, PR boost, whatever verbage you use it would be a very strong move for us. If you’d rather ticky tack over how I said it rather then the rest of the reasons I laid out why the deal would make a ton of sense, by all means go ahead. That’s on you compadre.

I’m sorry but If you have a bad taste in your mouth because a 20 year old kid has to spend a little more time in AAA, that’s on you, not the team. This is the best team on paper that we’ve seen going into a season in decades and you need good vibes because of Holliday?  That’s absurd.

You can’t say the things Elias said about Jackson all spring and then about face and send him down after he has arguably one of the best camps of anyone on the team and not ruffle a few feathers (pun not intended).
I’m not going into all of this again as it’s been mulled over ad nauseam already, but at the very least the move definitely comes off to some if not most as service time manipulation. All I’m saying is it wouldn’t hurt fan morale to add a serious help to this rotation to go along with the official announcement of Rubenstein coming up.

    Nothing absurd about that.

  5. I was thinking about this exact situation this morning and the more I think about it, the more it makes sense all around.

For us he fits in perfectly into the rotation that IMO desperately needs it. We have the money. We should be going all in with most likely only one year of Burnes. No worries about a QO pick being taken away (would have been a surefire dealbreaker for Elias) since he was traded mid-season last year. Even if Bradish and Means come back when we think you always need pitching.

For Montgomery he gets a one year deal to reprove his worth, pitching in a highly viewed market where he can stick it to the big market teams in division who didn’t offer up the big money he wanted. Good pitchers park, with fantastic run support to give him his best chance to put up numbers for a potential bigger payday next offseason. By waiting until after OD now he takes away the QO worry for teams looking at him next year.

of course this makes all the sense in the world so waiting to be disappointed when it doesn’t come to fruition….

Am I correct that keeping Holliday and Mayo in the minors for 15 days would put our young players on this schedule for free agency?

Adley Rutschman - after 2027 season

    Gunnar Henderson/Kyle Bradish - after 2028 season

    Grayson Rodriguez/Jordan Westburg/(Colton Cowser?) - after 2029 season

    Jackson Holliday/Coby Mayo/(Heston Kjerstad?) - after 2030 season

With that in mind, it does seem like it's worth it to use the "adjust to lefties and 2B" argument for Holliday and "work on defense and have innings in the outfield" argument for Mayo.  If they call either of these guys up soon and they win Rookie of the Year, they've earned their year of service, and they've likely played well enough to help the team make a run.  Truth be told, if you call them both up in the same year and they both produce, they may cancel each other out in the ROY voting.  I can't remember a team having prospects go 1-2 in the ROY race.

This also reemphasizes that next spring, even if all goes well, Lucy may still pull the football away before we can kick it and Basallo will need some April tinkering in southeast Virginia.

“I can’t remember a team having two prospects go 1-2 in the ROY race.”

2024 Rangers are about to say “hold my beer”.

I don't think so.   Service time is guaranteed if they keep down long enough.   The pick is a huge gamble.   While interpreters for Japanese megastars may like to gamble,  most GMs don't.   A guaranteed extra year of Holliday is a much safer bet than a chance to win ROY and get the pick.

This. I will preface this by saying that I too am very disappointed with the news, not only for Holliday, but potentially for Norby should any of these other at best AAAA guys ends up starting games at second over him.

However, I feel like a lot of people here have the opinion that Holliday winning ROY is either a foregone conclusion or anything close to it given a start to the season up here. On the Rangers alone he is facing both Carter and (a now starting the season up) Langford, who both have just as good if not better in my opinion a shot at taking ROY as Holliday does.

Might be forcing myself to look at a glass half full situation right now but just my take.
