  1. I think this off season would be the perfect time to move Mateo, can't see his value getting much higher.

I prefer Ortiz as SS over Henderson, and he should hit much better than Mateo.

Next season I'd like to see an infield of Mountcastle 1B, Norby 2B, Ortiz SS and Henderson at 3B, with Urias as the utility guy, Westburg could also fill that role or 2B at some point, although I don't think he's anywhere near Henderson or Ortiz defensively.

Now I typically am against this type of stuff because it's absurd.  But I'm also bored.  So here we go.

    Aug 5th-7th vs. Pirates = 2 wins

    Aug 8th - 10th vs. Blue Jays = 1 win

    Aug 11th vs. BoSox = 1 win

    Aug 12th - 14th vs. Rays = 2 wins

    Aug 15th - 17th vs. Blue Jays = 1 win

    Aug 18th vs. Cubs = 1 win

    Aug 19th -21st vs. BoSox = 2 wins

    Aug 23rd - 25th vs. ChiSox = 2 wins

    Aug 26th - 28th vs. Astros = 1 win

    Aug 30th - Sept 1 vs. Guardians = 2 wins

    Sept 2nd - Sept 4th vs. A's = 2 wins

    Sept 5th - Sept 7th vs. Blue Jays = 1 win

    Sept 9th - Sept 11th vs. BoSox = 1 win

    Sept 13th - 14th vs. Nats = 2 wins

    Sept 16th - 18th vs. Blue Jays = 1 win

    Sept 19th - 21st vs. Tigers = 2 wins

    Sept 22nd - 25th vs. Astros = 1 win

    Sept 26th - 29th vs. BoSox = 2 wins

    Sept 30th - Oct 2nd vs. Yankees = 1 win

    Oct 3rd - Oct 5th vs. Blue Jays = 1 win

That's a total of 29 wins and 83 on the season.

Wild card spot?  Probably not.  But if anyone told you back in March that we'd win 83 games this year, I think you'd probably want a hit of whatever they were smoking.

I be joining you in asking for a hit if someone told me we'd win 83 games in March.

With the strength of the remaining schedule if we can win 29 or more of those games it will be a super fun end of the season.

For some reason Santander is still worth more to the Orioles than to the rest of the league despite him getting more expensive next year and the O's loaded with OF prospects. Possible explanations:

    1. Return wasn't there.

    2. They are looking to contend in '23, and he will provide stability in the lineup. They don't fully trust Stowers/Vavra/Diaz. Without Mancini now, we need a reliable bat.

    3. They think he will continue to build trade value beyond his arbitration raise.

    4. Same as 3 but they are dumb and missed an opportunity to sell at peak value.

    I am thinking a combination of 1 and 2.

I'm gonna say 1 mostly with a little bit of 3 as well. I just don't think the return was good enough, that may be the case with more than Santander as well.

  4. Finish strong. After the Pittsburgh series the rest of August is gonna be tough, with every team we play either ahead of us in the standings or .5 behind us, with the makeup game vs the Cubs in there as well. If we can stay close to .500 and avoid any long losing streaks I'll consider the season a success. The wild card and anything beyond would be a nice cherry on top of the season.

I'd like to see Hays and Mountcastle heat up and be more consistent, Santander stay healthy all season, and how many doubles will Adley end up with. How much will we see of Vavra, Diaz and hopefully Stowers.

Pitching, can they keep it up? How will Bautista handle the closer role, and who steps up in the pen to fill the spot opened with the Lopez trade, will it be Vespi, Gillaspie or someone else.

Should be a fun last 2 months of the season.

No, it doesn’t mean anything.  It’s apples to Buicks.   He is in a completely different role. Most closers sucked as starters.

We'll have to disagree on this. Yes it's possible he turned a corner, but it's also possible he's just pitched out of his mind the first half.

I'm not thrilled with the return, but ok with moving Lopez because I'm not convinced he'd keep up the first half performance.

This is crazy when did the Padres become on par with the Yankees and Dodgers when it comes to being a big market team. Very curious to see the return the Nats received for this trade.

Looks like they pretty much gutted the farm. Gore, Abrams, Hassell, Wood & Susana. I seen another ML piece as well, but haven't seen a name yet.

His track before this year means nothing.  He was an awful starter but his role as a short, late inning reliever is completely different.

Its like saying Mullins is the same player he was a few years ago when he was still switch hitting.

His track record before this season absolutely means something, he was not good, at all.

If you take away this season he still only started 14 games more in his career than coming in relief. Maybe being focused on  only relieving has helped, but I'm not gonna lose any sleep about losing Lopez, he's replaceable.

Tip of the cap to Mike Elias for sticking to his plan and not letting pollyanna fans think that this is a year they should be going "all in" in an attempt to get a third wild card berth.

Good to know we've got a GM who's not resting until his plan is complete.  That's discipline and not chasing shiny objects.  Any fans who are pissed off about this will most likely forget how they felt in early August 2022 in a year or so when there's a legit contender on the field.

Mike, if you're reading, now trade Santander, too.  Keep it going.

I gotta agree with you on this.

Yes it sucks losing these guys while we're playing well and in the middle of the wild card race, but I'm glad Elias is sticking to the game plan.

I'd much rather have this team set up to be competitive the next 5-10 years than roll the dice this year hoping for a wild card.

And there isn’t any reason to think he will fall off a cliff either.

It's an underwhelming trade, but there is definitely reason to think Lopez won't fall off a cliff. His track record before this season isn't good, even though that was mostly as a starter.

I would have liked to have gotten more for him but if this is all we could get after an all star appearance, I can't see his value getting much higher unfortunately.

I feel like age matters less when it comes to pitchers.  If either of them comes up and is a 26-27 year old rookie, that makes him Tyler Wells.  Not so bad....

I guess it's the TJ surgery that dampens the deal some for me. By the time he returns next year he'll be nearly 25. That's a big setback for a guy that still hasn't been pitching that long.

Hopefully I'm wrong and he turns out to be a great return for Trey.

If anyone was looking for a closer or set up man Bautista is as good as they come right now.  Unhittable

Rumor has it the Dodgers need a closer.

We've got a real shot at the playoffs.  I'd hate to see the Mountain go.

Would much rather trade Lopez or Tate and keep Bautista

I think a package of Henderson, Westburg, Cowser and Baumann would be more than what the Mariners gave up, but not by much--replace Cowser with Drew Rom and that would be more like it.  Either way, it's way too much for the O's to give up for a pitcher who is only signed through 2023, even though I think Castillo is a legitimate ace.

I would not give up Henderson in any trade--I'd call him up, put him at 3B and see if he can create  some Manny Machado 2014 magic.

Definitely more than I'd give up right now.

2 years from now I hope this is the type of trade we'd make to put us over the top.

I’d probably insist on Ramirez over Vientos. We have 3 infielders nearly ready at AAA (counting Vavra). I see no reason why Vientos makes sense.

So you’d be swopping  Lopez for Peterson (3 years) and getting Ramirez for Mancini. You could probably also get Suarez. But, I probably wouldn’t kill it over that.

For me, I’d much prefer getting Hamel, Ziegler, Ramirez, and Suarez for those 2.

You be getting Ramirez for Mancini and Hamel, Ziegler and Suarez for Lopez.

I’m personally think this is what the Elias approach looks like. You could then send a player or two (non top 30) for Quintana. He looks like a Cashner clone the year we traded him for the 2 DSL kids. A mediocre veteran having a really good season.

I'm ok with any of the prospects you mentioned from the Mets.

My only issue would be Quintana. Personally I don't have any interest in him or another rental pitcher. Yes he would help this season, but if we're giving up prospects for anyone I'd like someone with a little more control. Maybe Grenier or Blaine Knight type prospects for him, but doubt that would get the job done.

No argument here….But, you’d think Mancini return 2/3 of that. Just spitballing but a #10 and #20-#25 has to be close. I’d deal Lopez if possible and have to think he brings back a pretty nice package.

I think Mancini alone should get a #10 and a #20-#30. Add Lopez or Tate to a deal and we should get something decent.

I seen someone mention David Peterson and Mark Vientos for Mancini and Lopez, I'd take that deal if it's on the table.

2 1/2 years of Santander is worth a lot more than than a half season of Mancini.

I agree he's worth more, but doubt the return will be significant. I hope I'm wrong and he nets a good return if he's moved.
