I mean, he’s no Machado, but he gets the job done.  We’ll probably see a few deep backhand throws he won’t make, but he should be solid otherwise.  He gets rid of the ball very smoothly and doesn’t require a lot of time to load up.

By saying he is no Machado do you mean after he catches the ball he does not read the label on the ball and gun the throw to first?

Speaking of late games, I remember that Frank Robinson hit his 500th homer in a game that was too late for the box score to be in the paper.  So, at the end of the week, I rode my bike 6-7 miles round trip to the local drug store to buy The Sporting News so I could have that box score.

Didn't they print the box score from late games the next day?

I lived in the Harrisburg PA area and the Harrisburg paper (Patriot News) printed a morning addition and an evening edition. Luckily my parents got the evening edition and i always got the box scores for all the games?

  3. We should never pitch to Arozarena. This guy kills us year after year like nobody i remember. Yes there have been guys who did well against us in a given year but this guy is doing it every year.

  4. I listened to this duo (Garceau and Newman) for the first time on radio about a week ago. They are the worst combo i have ever heard broadcast a game of any kind with the only exception being possibly a high school game. We have gone from Chuck Thompson, Jon Miller and Joe Angel to this.  Not sure you could have hired worse announcers if you tried. For a team struggling to get fan interest the choice to hire these announcers boggles the mind.

  5. Ortiz was a DH. His only contributions to his teams was hitting. He had a career 56.7 OWAR. Bobby Grich had a career 62.6 OWAR. There is no way this guy is a first ballot HOFer. I dont care what the circumstances were that allowed him to go in on the first ballot.

I do not know how many years it will take for the Orioles to win something where we can really be proud again.  I do know that IMO they are always starting in the hole of a very tough division and a hitters park, both which dictate  an above  average pitching department to really compete.    Until the pitching is above average,  I think that every thing else concerning the team is maybe up for discussion, but meaningless.

The division is tough but the Rays have done ok. In the last 14 years (including 2021) they have been over .500 10 times and they had 2 seasons of 80-82. They were in the playoffs 6 times and about to be 7. We have been so far behind our division rivals for so long it is amazing we have any fans at all. We had 5 seasons of .500 or better in the last 24 years (including 2021). That is St. Louis Browns territory.

15 players, 2 coaches, visiting clubby.

Seems baseball on field protocols are working pretty good. Based on the test results so far it did not spread to the Phillies which as a player would make me feel pretty good. And if Marlin players did go to a strip club (as has been rumored) I am sure it was just for a to go order of wings and left immediately after picking up the order.

  8. I see Pat Kelly played for the Royals in this game. I remember Kelly hitting a pinch hit home run against the Red Sox that won the game and Bill Odonell went crazy (in his own way) by calling him Harold Patrick Kelly blah blah. I think i found the game, it was on 5/23/79.  79 was a pretty exciting year except for the very end.
