I don't know, but I'm wondering - if the Bird Bath guy squirts his hose up in the air on a night when the wind is blowing toward right field, aren't the guys in the bullpen going to get wet?

The Orioles won a lot of games with Mark Belanger at shortstop, even if he didn't hit .300 every year.

Orioles are now 6-2 on the current 10-game road trip.

Dave McNally had the best ERA of any of the Oriole starting pitchers who were healthy when the 1966 World Series came around. That prompted Manager Hank Bauer to name McNally as the starter for Game 1 of the World Series.
As I recall, the governor of Montana proclaimed the day of Game 1 as Dave McNally Day in the state. Unfortunately, that seemed to create some extra pressure on McNally, who had a rough go of it in that game, walking five and giving up two hits in 2 1/3 innings. He was charged with two runs and was probably lucky it wasn't more, but Moe Drabowsky shut the Dodgers down from that point. The Orioles won that game, then Jim Palmer and Wally Bunker pitched shutouts in Games 2 and 3.
McNally came back to start Game 4 and finished the Series by recording another shutout. The Orioles set a World Series record which still stands, by shutting out the Dodgers in 33 consecutive innings.
I remember that after Game 4, McNally expressed relief, saying "They told me I'd be the goat of the Series if I gave one run." (This was back in the days when "goat" had a very negative connotation in sports, rather than being an acronym for "Greatest Of All Time," which is what it has now come to mean.)

Not a great night for Frazier, but he picks up the game-winning RBI.
-
Good pickup by Henderson. The runner had him screened about as well as you can do it, and he still made the play.
-
Holding runners on first is not one of Bautista's strong points.

Orioles didn't win a game against Detroit last season, right?
Orioles were 1-5 against Detroit.
It was their worst record against any opponent.
-
When the Orioles visited Detroit last year, they had won four of their last five and six of their last eight, bringing their record to 14-18. The Tigers had lost three in a row and nine of their last 10 and were sporting a record of 9-23. Looked like they were going to be easy pickings.
And Detroit swept the series. The Orioles ended up winning only one of six games against the Tigers last year, their worst record against any opponent.
Definitely don't want to look past these guys this weekend.

Henderson! With the RBI single.

Cano does the job again.
One inning to go.

Good job by the pen.
Baumann gets the win, Bautista gets the save, and Cano and Perez (yes, Perez) both get holds.

Two out, no on, and look what happened next.

I was critical of Vavra on the double, so it's only fair to give him credit now. He did a heck of a job turning that double play.

So, how's the infield now? Did Mateo go to 2nd?
Mateo is at short. Henderson moved to third. Vavra came in from right field to second base and O'Hearn is playing right field.
Vavra apparently didn't realize he was supposed to cover second on Andrus' hit to left.

Getting Adley up here could be huge.
Yes, it could.

An offensive explosion!
Three walks and an infield single!

Seems as though Mullins could have moved up on the foul fly. Once Vavra drew the throw to the plate, there was no one in position to cut it off.
Makes no difference. Santander flied out.

Rays have been insane to start the year. 8-0.
Checked the schedule, fortunately we don't see them until the second week of May. Hopefully they are no longer hotter than the surface of the sun by then.
Did you check the Rays' schedule?
Can't do any better than win eight out of eight, but the Rays could hardly have asked for an easier set of opponents to begin the season. They opened against the Tigers, who lost 96 games last year, then played the Nationals, who lost 107, and are now feasting on the A's, who lost 102.

All of a sudden this season, I keep hearing announcers talking about pitchers throwing a "sweeper." In all the years I've been following baseball, I don't think I ever heard this term before.
I thought a sweeper was what the ump used to brush the dirt off home plate.
What is a sweeper? How does it differ from a curve ball or a slider?

The Nationals entered the ninth inning with a 6-5 lead over the Rays.
Six batters later, it is 10-6, Tampa Bay. The only out was a guy caught stealing.

Gibson makes it through five on a tidy 62 pitches.

I remember Albie Pearson. After completing his second season with the Orioles, he went to the expansion Los Angeles Angels.
The diminutive (5'5") Pearson came back to Baltimore on Opening Day in 1961 and reminded the Orioles how tough he was to pitch to when he drew a first-inning walk off Milt Pappas. Moments later, he scored the first run in Angels' history, trotting home ahead of Ted Kluszewski's homer.
Not only do I remember Pearson, I even remember how to spell Kluszewski.
