I think the downside scenario is more likely to resemble the recent Jays.

However, there is also a decent possibility that Red Sox and/or Yankees become dominant over the next few years.  I think the Red Sox young core (Durran, Roman Anthony, Casas, Rafaela, Abreu, Marcelo Mayer, Kyle Teel, Kristian Campbell, Miguel Bleis + Devers) is as good or better than ours and they are going to have a lot of payroll capacity.  The Yankees could return Cole and Soto along with Judge and good young pitching - even if the rest of the lineup is middling they will be tough.

As a result, I’m trying to enjoy the season and not to get too down despite it seeming like a slog.  As frustrating as it has been, it’s still better than being out of contention in September. I’m hoping that all of the Orioles Magic is just being saved up for the playoffs unlike last year.

    Also a good post. Agree.

I think we’re at the point now where we have to question the talent. Maybe some of these guys are a tad over hyped.

That’s also a possibility. I don’t think it’s likely but there is potential for a failed super rebuild a la the white sox of the early 2020s.

Adley is obviously hurt.  Something is not right with him.  Hopefully he'll get whatever is physically wrong with him fixed in the offseason, because he's been terrible the last 2 months and not the same player he was since he was called up.  Coincidentally (or not), the same 2 months that the Os have been mediocre to bad.  Witt is probably the superior player going forward, but I am not saying this is the new Adley.  Was the Yelich of a month ago the real Yelich hobbling around or was that Yelich fighting a back injury?  I don't know but Yelich is out for the season and he said it became too much to deal with and was affecting everything he did and now he is getting back surgery.

Yelich’s career was completely derailed by his back issues. Let’s hope Adley’s are nowhere close in comparison.

    Is he tipping his pitches?

I thought the CB to Teoscar wasn't that bad a pitch. He just seemed to be sitting CB.

The one to Shohei fooled him and he gave it a half swing. He's just so freaking good he can hit it out with one hand.

One of the guys on the radio mentioned that last night as a possibility. I would think they would have figured it out by now though since he’s been struggling for quite some time.

I don’t think I would have the guts to do it. That said GRod could be a nice pen piece. He is too good not to be a SP if he is 100% though.

Too physically talented, absolutely. And in the long run it would be absurd to move him to the pen at this stage in his career. But right now he’s so inefficient with his pitches that I think being able to come in and throw 101-102 for an inning and change paired with his offspeed stuff would be a huge weapon for us. Regroup in the winter and hope the experience makes him even hungrier to hone his command.

Agree with the OP. I was in favor of giving him another shot. Thought his Mets drama was super overblown and I had no issue with what occurred. He wasn't even having a bad season with the Mets either.

Didn’t he throw his glove into the stands?

I just don’t think he’s the same pitcher for that latter statement. He either needs to gain 2-3 more mph back on the heater or have pin point control.

He was really good for about a month in the first half. I’m not saying I expect it at all, but I won’t discount the small chance that he finds it for a month at the right time.
