  1. Picking higher also means you have a greater pool in which to sign Creed Williams, John Rhodes, Trenton Craig, etc.
  2. Are we giving them prospects to take Shawn Armstrong from us? lol
  3. Is it safe to say that this is the lowest ceiling draft the Orioles have had in the past 20 years? It's probably the lowest number of HS kids (1) selected
  4. It's kind of ironic that there was a whole crowd that came out against the orioles saying they were cheap because they went "underslot" with Cowser instead of drafting Lawler or Watson. Then you had the group of people stand up for the orioles and explain to this crowd that underslotting doesn't mean they're cheap but that they'll re-distribute that money else where in the draft. Now the Orioles spit in the face of the group trying to defend them by actually not spending their full allocation lol basically proving the first crowd right.
  5. This draft is disappointing only for the fact that we did not manage signing bonus allotments properly. I don't mind the guys we picked. In fact, I like the college talent we drafted, but we got hoodwinked into not cutting a better deal with Cowser and then overpaying guys like the kentucky OF and the Southern Missouri OF.
  6. Seeing that we took a 5'11" college pitcher, I don't think they were planning on going overslot with this pick
  7. If we didn't get a huge savings from the Cowser pick then there's a legitimate chance we pay Cowser close to the same as the Pirates paid Davis.
  8. The way I see it, there are two possible explanations for what is going on with this draft: 1) Colton Cowser was a full slot pick and the orioles don't really have the savings to go underslot like we think they do. 2) The Orioles overvalue all of these college bats so much more than everyone else and they are slightly over slotting each of them (even though they don't need to) Both possibilities would mean the orioles front office are failing at their jobs
  9. yeah, so pirates go underslot at 1.1 and then go lottery ticket overslots with a HS pitcher and HS OF. Orioles go underslot and then take a college 2B and a college OF with their next two picks. Kinda makes me mad when the Marlins take Khalil Watson and the HS Catcher with their first two picks. The padres just casually take the 6'7" HS OF Wood with their second pick without going underslot with their first pick. I feel like it's just a myth that you have to go big underslot in order to afford HS studs.
  10. I think the Orioles go underslot with #5. I'm not sure if Davis would sign for a decent underslot at #5 or if they'd have to go with Cowser to get a significant savings. I think there's enough uncertainty with HS guys in the 15-40 range and the Orioles will have their hearts set on a couple with their second pick. So they'll get the college bat they want with #5, and then possibly take a HS position player with their second. Kind of similar to the Adley/Gunnar draft.
  11. Yeah, you know who is a good 4 inning starter? Jorge Lopez, once he gets into that 5th inning blah. I don't want to draft Jorge Lopez with the 5th overall pick
