Does he play good defense?

I had seen his name in the FCL box scores and was wondering why a 24-year old was playing there. It is kind of surprising to see him in Bowie now.
Me too, I was wondering the same.

I'm not a blind defender of Elias by any stretch, but one thing I'm certain of...he's not an idiot. He understands this business and knows what he wants to do.
We'll have to let the signings all play out. My hunch is that a few of those guys he took in picks 2-5 are going to cost more than people expected and thus there really wasn't the alleged savings from the 1st 2 days.
Or, he was told he could only spend a certain amount of money. Which would be oh so disheartening, so let's hope it's not that.
I'm not hating on Elias, I even defended him after the Cowswer pick. But after watching day 2 and 3 you can't deny this draft class is a bit of a head-scratcher.

They don't even seem to go BPA. They drafted 1 pitcher in the first 10 rounds and then drafted 7 pitchers in the last 10. I guess it is what the analytics tell them, but it's confusing.
-
It just looks like they have no idea what they're doing.

Hopefully we can still get one of those high schoolers.

Is this the overslot guy?

I guess Elias didn't watch high school baseball this year.

You dont draft by needs or position. You draft for abilities.
I never said I support draft fot need.

I assume this is sarcasm(?), but just in case, this is pretty obviously not what I was saying.
I was merely responding to the claim that McKenna couldn't have an impact on a contending team.
You don't draft for need in the MLB draft anyway, so any impact Cowser has on the MLB team's outfield situation is a question for 2-3 years down the road and a ton can change. A year ago, few would have thought that Cedric Mullins could have an impact on a contending team (or no more of an impact that I am suggesting McKenna could have). Things change.
I was replying to a user who was hinting we shouldn't have drafted Cowswer because we already have plenty of outfielders for the next contending window, and you are supporting his thesis.

McKenna could certainly be a backup centerfielder / pinch runner / late inning defensive upgrade on a contending team. That role isn't necessary when you have multiple starting quality center fielders like Mullins, Hays and hopefully Cowser.
So we shouldn't have drafted Cowser because McKenna can be a backup CF. Got you.

Not that it's a terrible thing, but they have an awful lot of outfielders for the contending window: Mullins, Hays, Haskin, Kjerstad, Cowser, Stowers, and potentially still Diaz/Stewart/Santander/McKenna.
Do you really expect Stewart or McKenna to have any impact on a contending team!?

I knew it would be him or Sal Frelick. Our current best prospects are going to reach the majors in 2022 and 2023 and he wants a college bat that can get to the majors quickly, so that the service time starts at almost the same time for all players, now he'll go overslot in high school kids. I'm not mad with this strategy, the problem is it will take 3 or 4 years to really have a deep evaluation of this strategy.

Mayer falls in the lap of the Sox.

I think Elias will go underslot once again and pick Colton Cowser.

Do we really want to draft a guy named Davis?
We're still trying to get rid of one.

In the lastest mock draft from Jonathan Mayo, he has us selecting Kahlil Watson. But the buzz about a underslot type of deal continues.

Colton Cowser has some good stats, but I still don't like this underslot deals.

Back when I chose the Orioles as my team in 2016 the team was fun to watch and that season had some amazing games. But since 2018 it has been a brutal journey, they just play awful baseball 90% of the games. I'm an european and I like to watch a few innings before I go to bed, but has soon as we start trailing I turn the game off. I really like to watch baseball, but this team is too painful to watch. Sometimes I think I should've chosen another team. But I guess I'll stick with the Orioles hoping they'll turn this around.

Another homer from Gunnar today. Him and Westburg need to be promoted.

Amazing 7 innings from Means!

My cat Nikki passed away today. Our family is devastated. She was 17 years old. Please, if you have a pet or pets, give them extra love and attention tonight.
I keep some photos of her on this site: https://sokanpets.org
I need escapism from this horrible, empty feeling. An Orioles win to get them over .500 would be a (small) salve.
Oh yeah! And in a few hours, I'll take my mom to Mercy Hospital in Baltimore to have spine surgery. It's low risk and she's expected to make a full recovery in 2-4 weeks. I'm more worried about her (and my) emotional wellbeing after we lost our treasured furry friend.
Let's go, O's!
Sorry to hear that, she was a really beatiful cat.

I feel like there are a lot of people in the OH that enjoy more seeing the Yankees and Red Sox lose than watching the Orioles win. I seriously don't get it, they don't even consider us a rival team. I just root for the Orioles and I couldn't care less for the Yankees and the Sox.
