  1. I simply don't see how a world series champion could be considered "illegitimate."   Those teams are playing by the same rules as every other team and managed to win 13 games (in the current format) against the four of the top twelve teams in the league before anyone else did.  I certainly wouldn't have considered an Orioles title in 12 or 16 as illegitimate had we won the WS.

Yes, it is illegitimate for an 88 win team to sneak into the playoffs get hot and win the World Series

The present system is a continuation of devaluing the regular season.

My solution would be to shorten the regular season enough to make all playoff series 7 games, or get rid of wild card teams (yeah aint going to happen because it is a big money generator)

I know injuries, slumps, etc will still happen and hot teams can run the table, but I don't like 5 games series or especially 3 game series, and it is just very noticeable in a year when the top 4 winning % teams don't even make it to a championship series.

Does that mean the Ravens' 2000 Super Bowl was illegitimate?

Snell as an ACE is a difference maker. Holliday as a true leadoff is a difference maker.

    1. Holliday L 2B

    2. Adley S C

    3. Gunnar L SS

    4. Santander S RF

    5. Mountcastle R 1B

    6. O’Hearn L DH

    7. Hays R LF

    8. Mullins L CF

    9. Westburg R 3B

Holliday will rack up enough across the board stats to win ROY and the first rd pick.

No Kjerstad or Cowser?  I think we move on from Hays and/or Mullins this offseason.

  4. Very curious to see what we do with the OF next year.  Would think that Kjerstad and Cowser are going to be in the mix to play every day (assuming they have just decent spring trainings) and I assume Mullins is back in CF to start, so if that's the case, what do we do with Hays (or Santander or O'Hearn)? I also assume Hicks will be gone.

  5. I was born in 75 so I started really following in the early 80's and don't have any of those great 60's or 70's teams from which to choose.  82 was a heartbreaker but 83 was glorious.  I think that 97 team was the best O's team since the early 80's.  The top of that lineup was something to watch.  The best part about this year's team is that it is both unexpected (to the degree they are winning; I was just hoping for a shot at a wildcard) and really feels like just the start of something special.

I think this is likely it, he made some really hard running plays in the OF and they are probably just being cautious with him and giving him the night off with a LHP, I wouldn't be shocked if he PH if needed.

Likely because RH hitters kill Freeland.

Exactly Hakuna.  I've been saying it all season.  The Orioles are in first place in spite of JA, not because of him.  They are in first because of the incredible job of Hyde and his awesome coaching staff and players.  And Elias.

Well, JA did hire Elias and likely approve the hiring of Hyde.  And it appears he has mostly stayed out of Elias's way and let him and Sig do their thing.  He also (and long overdue) authorized us to have a presence in Latin America, which should pay huge dividends in the next few years.   So while this KB story is certainly ridiculous and makes him look like a petulant child, it's not as if he hasn't done numerous good things during his brief tenure.

  8. I don't get this.  Palmer talks pretty incessantly about how amazing the turnaround has been and reminds viewers all the time that just two years ago, we lost 110 games.  That seems worse than what Brown was allegedly disciplined for saying.

  9. To your point, I can't remember a team that uses all of its parts as effectively as this team does.  We have gotten contributions, and very timely ones, from just about everyone on the roster and our pick-ups.  Rarely do we put out the same lineup on consecutive nights and yet, we continue humming along.

Not scoring any runs with the bases loaded and no outs also didn't do us any favors. Just as important to the loss as Cano's pitching or the miscue by Mateo imo.

Especially with Westburg, Gunnar and Adley coming up.  That was the game right there.  We score two more in the second and we likely win.

I respect your opinion and right to have one. But the consensus of the scouting community/ talent evaluators don't see things as you do. In most prospect rankings, they are not particularly closely rated as players.

Isn't Ortiz a top 100 prospect?  Keith Law likes Ortiz just as much, if not more, than Westburg.  And this just isn't true as most other publications have them pretty close.  Tony has Westburg one spot over Ortiz.  My point was if Westburg is getting all that attention and playing every day, Ortiz should have gotten the same.

I think it's interesting and telling how they've handled Westburg vs. Ortiz. I get the 40-man roster decision piece of it for Ortiz, but they're making a bigger deal about Westburg than Ortiz (a day's notice) and I don't anticipate them going up and down with him as they are Ortiz.

Based on this, it's clear to me that while they like Ortiz and view him as a good prospect, they don't have him in the same class of prospects as Westburg who seems like he's being treated closer to how they treated Adley and Henderson whereas Ortiz is being treated more like Stowers.

But by all accounts, Ortiz is much better defensively than either Gunnar or Westburg.  Further, Ortiz has hit plenty since recovering from his injury.  So while I think you're right on how they view the two, I don't understand it.   Ortiz should have been given the same treatment as Gunnar and/or Westburg.

  13. It's the right move.  Get some bullpen help for now and bring up Irvin for what would have been Grayson's next start.  He has some work to do in AAA to get back to what he was before his injury last year.
