"Even good players almost always struggle initially" -- or do they?
In discussing whether to bring up Jordan Westburg, Colton Cowser, etc., we often hear statements like “even very good players usually struggle initially, with very rare exceptions.” I spent some time today testing that statement.
For my study, I looked at all 20 players who debuted in 2017 who have been worth at least 5.0 rWAR in their career. Originally I was going to do 2018 as well, but this was time consuming so I decided just to do one year for now.
