  1. Yeah, but the risk is small....perhaps a tad less than the smidgeon of good will the area scout might acquire?
  2. I think the more fundamental thing is that they were so discouraged by the physical that they didn't offer the 1 million or whatever he was originally looking for. If you were going to leave the money on the table anyway, why not gamble? Turn him into a knuckleballer. Coming up snake eyes is not going to break the bank. That physical must have really been prognosis negative. I can see not offering the 40% just to be nice. That seems ancillary to the bigger question.
  3. That was essentially our offer. He is getting paid 11 mm next year too.
  4. Pat Neshek pitched a combined two scoreless innings over the weekend against the Giants. So far this year: FIP: 2.16 WHIP: 0.787 H/9: 5.8 HR/9: 0.4 BB/9: 1.3 SO/9: 8.9 The Phillies signed him just to trade him at the deadline and it looks like it might pay off. I think Pat exemplifies all that is good and exasperating about Duquette. Dan signed Neshek to a minor league deal at the start of 2012, one of Dan's first signings. Despite pitching well, Dan then had no second thoughts about promptly sending him off to Oakland later in August of that year for cash considerations. Maybe he had a handshake agreement with Pat and there was no room in Baltimore, but that deal still puzzles me to this day.
  5. He has been on base three more times again today. Since he seemed to bottom out in Milwaukee in 2014, he has steadily rejuvenated himself. 2015 .230/.315/.713, 13 HR 2016 .282/.356/.806 14 HR The increase in the batting average is notable.
  6. Marquez strands Bryant. Pitch wise, he probably has another inning in him in this close 1-0 game. I haven't checked the weather, but it has been raining in Denver. Perhaps there is balming humidity in the air?
  7. And exactly as I post that he gives up a leadoff double to Kris Bryant.
  8. German Marquez has a no no through 6 in Colorado today.
  9. I think we are still a couple of cash/PTBNL's in the hole
  10. Tonight’s Mariners – Angels game featured several former Orioles, headlined by Yovani Gallardo making his Mariner debut. Yovani was ho hum, giving up 3 ER and 8 hits in 5 IP. The most interesting thing was that he was sitting 92-94 mph with his four seamer and had good velocity on the two seamer as well http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/pfx.php?month=4&day=7&year=2017&game=gid_2017_04_07_seamlb_anamlb_1%2F&pitchSel=451596&prevGame=gid_2017_04_07_seamlb_anamlb_1%2F&prevDate=47&league=mlb Bud Norris pitched out of a jam of his own making, Danny Valencia went 1-4 and made a couple of nice defensive plays, and Nelson Cruz went 1-4 while driving in the M’s only run. It was a thrill a moment I tell ya!
  11. Tony: I just cancelled by CCbill subscription and re-upped using the new store and Paypal. Things went smoothly. Although, note that the link to the store in your post above is broken. Thanks again for the great site and for fostering such a great community.
  12. The Astros close out the season with a dismal 8-1 loss to the mighty Angels. They finish 84-78, 11 games out of first and 5 games out of the wild card. All they need is starting pitching.
  13. No hitter broken up by NY on an Oakland challenge!
  14. Our old friend Eduardo Rodriguez has a no hitter through 6 in Oakland. He is at 88 pitches. Boston has six hits, but hasn't scored either.
  15. You mean major reconstructive surgery on a body part that has lots of money leveraged on it is not the obvious response to a sore elbow? My Google knowledge of the topic is that diagnosing discomfort in that area for a pitcher is not easy peasy, and there are lots of pitchers who rested (e.g. Andrew Miller) and came back fine....because the issue was muscle related. I think until you see a clear sign that the tendon is gone, you hope.
  16. ...and he is out of the game; he still had more hits than he gave up but the once 4 run lead shrank considerably.
  17. I watched a chunk of that game. He has been on almost as many teams as pitches he threw that game. [emoji38]
  18. LOL, yes THAT guy. He now has an RBI and two hits.
  19. Edwin Jackson has a no hitter through 6 innings against the Giants.
  20. Jake Lamb gets a single with one out in the 8th. Right after that a double play ends the inning. 14 K's for Bumgarner so far....although it might be the end of the night for him.
  21. Through seven now. 93 pitches. The crowd is murmuring in Frisco.
  22. Madison Bumgarner has a no hitter through 5 against the Diamondbacks. It would still be a perfect game except for a Gregor Blanco error.
