The front office identified the need for 2 starters this off season. They went out and fetched Gibson and Irvin. Not the moves to push us to the top.At best, lateral moves. The inability to identify and get a top of the rotation arm leaves Elias with an incomplete grade at this point. While the start of the season has been terrific,it just can't be denied the starting staff at present isn't good enough to make a deep playoff push. The offense has carried the team up until now. They will inevitably cool off at times.During the course of 162 games, good pitching prevails, and we're not there yet, imo. Will we get there? That remains to be seen.It could've been done this past winter and wasn't. Still waiting.
