  1. Good thing the Wiz pick 5th. No way they go that high. :clap3::P

    Zing!

With Haywood and Jamison already on board, the Wizards have their Tar Heel quota met already.

  2. Just heard from a reliable source that Tyler Hansbrough and Ty Lawson were two of the more impressive players in pre draft workouts and both have moved up the draft board rapidly. Hard work pays off!

  3. Watching an hour of sportscenter that only shows Kobe Bryant highlights and Plaxico Burris coverage. Not one baseball highlight the whole show.

I watched last night too, and they did an entire piece on the #11. Rockies winning streak, O's scoring 11 runs, Marlins scoring 11, and Phillies too. I thought it was great. They recapped a wild NASCAR race as well. I don't know how you missed that.

  4. I agree with everything said here of course, and these scumbags are likely to continue to do these awful things anyway. My only question was as far as the law goes, it seems that it'd be hard to get a conviction based on the way NBC "catches" these guys.

  5. Entrapment is only if the criminal would have been unlikely to commit it.

Since these scumbags are already being predators in a chat room going after underage kids, it's hard to argue that, were it not for the ploy, they wouldn't have commited sexual abuse anyway.

Agreed, but does that hold up in court? It just seems like it'd be hard to get a conviction.

  6. I've never really watched it, I only know the premise, but do they use a law enforcement officer as part of the trap? Because it's only entrapment if a law enforcement officer or government official, etc, is the one who sets the person up for the fall.

I'm not sure, I watched it last night for the first time, and I think it was "paid actors" or whatever, but the cops were waiting for the guys as they came to the house. It was very strange. It seems like the few guys that I saw all plead not guilty when clearly the intent was there. We were bored at the beach and had nothing better to watch. I don't expect us to watch again.

  7. How is "To Catch a Predator" NOT entrapment? I don't want to at all seem like I'm defending those scumbags they catch, but I would think a good lawyer could get them off if not a very light sentence.

  8. C'mon man! It's the RANTS section! We don't have to be rational or logical or even truthful! :D

Truth be told? The two times I've encountered him at Oriole Park he was so nice to me he made me angry. I so hoped he'd be a jerk and come off like an arrogant jackhole but he was the exact opposite.

And yes, the Jeter hate festered even further. Why? For not living up to my expectations. Logical? Nope. But it's how I feel. I don't always have to be reasonable and rational when it comes to being a sports fan. Especially not in the Rants section. ;)

I know, I"m just messin with ya. I've met Jeter on a few occasions as well, and he's just a nice guy. I shared a story with Cindy the other day, and I'll be brief here as well.

I used to work at a radio station and back in 2001 or so, we did a benefit at Hopkins Childrens Center. We had 3 O's and Ravens do appearances and it was great. Anyway, the Yankees were in town and Brady Anderson saw Jeter and Torre at lunch and I guess mentioned to them that he was going to the hospital. Long story short, Jeter and Torre showed up, unannounced, no media, no publicity, nothing. They signed autographs and spent some time with the kids. I gained a ton of respect for both of those guys that day.

He's a good guy, that's all. I'm glad you've met him have seen this. It's funny the irrational love/hate we have for these guys. It's what being a passionate fan is all about I guess.

  9. It was brought up. ARod brought it up before he signed there. He asked Jeter if Jeter would consider moving from SS, so that ARod could be the MFY SS. Jeter said he would not. When asked if he would agree to let the best SS in the history of the game play SS for his team, Jeter said "No".

I respectfully disagree. He didn't "sign" there, he was traded there, so there was no recruiting or convincing to be attempted or done. I do not believe that Jeter was asked and refused. I'd assume that the Yankees told A Rod he'd be playing third, not even thinking they'd move Jeter. He was established there, and hadn't lost it playing short yet.

Again though, if this is all you have to "prove" he's not a good guy, I'll accept it.

  10. You can't bring Ripken in to this, there was nobody better than him he was hindering before he did make the switch to third. And when he made the switch, it made perfect sense.

And yeah, I'm honest enough to admit that pretty much everything I have against him is superficial or not of his own doing.

I'm sure most people feel the same whether they'd admit it or not.

You're right about Ripken, but he did let his ego get in the way of things at first. It was just the first thing that came to my mind, that's why I went with it. On second thought, I'd recant that.

  11. Why didn't Jeter volunteer to make the move? The reasoning is basically "well, Jeter was there first," but Jeter should have recognized that Rodriguez moving to third was not the best answer to their problem.

Fair question, and one that can't be answered. Maybe there is something to it, and that's fine. We never blamed Cal for doing it or taking a me first stance for a while, so why hold this against Jeter?

Like I said, if this is all you've got against him, I can live with it. It's not an arrest, a steroid issue, or anything like that.

  12. I agree that he's a great #2 hitter and will deserve his place in the HOF because of that. I agree he's been no trouble, and that he has a quality that makes you want him to be on your team. However, I don't believe that's all there is to say. Nobody in the MFY FO was gonna make him move, for reasons that have to do with MFY politics and ownership. IMO, that doesn't change the fact that he took a very clear "me first" stance.

Perhaps, but that's not enough for me to label him as "selfish". I don't 100% agree that he necessarily took the "me first" stance, since it was never even brought up, but I'll admit that I won't dismiss it either.

If this is the worst thing he'll do in his career, I think I can live with it as a fan of the man.

  13. Jeter is the reason they shifted ARod to 3B. He was quite clear that he was staying at SS and ARod could play somewhere else. Because of him, hit team had the best SS in the history of the universe playing out of position so that Derek's ego would not have to adapt to playing 2B instead of SS. So, instead of the best SS, the MFY's wind up with one of the lesser SS's. IMO, that's not class, nor is it putting your team first. It was a case of Jeter putting what's best for his own ego ahead of what was best for his team. Now, it's OK with me that he did that, because they haven't been to the WS since. But painting the guy like he's "pure class" is going a bridge too far when he does something like that to his team.

We've discussed this before, they never asked him to move, not even once. A Rod offered to play third. Is A Rod a better SS? Of course, but Jeter was the SS in New York at the time, and they were in the market for a 3B after Brosius. It is what it is. If this is all you have to show how he isn't classy, it's really a stretch.

Seriously, Shack, i love ya like a brother, but Jeter has NEVER been in trouble off the field, I've NEVER heard a bad word said about him by a teammate or an opponent. Honestly, you want your athletes having a big ego. Look at Cal Jr, my goodness, no one had a bigger ego than him. He wouldn't even look at Manny Alexander that night on the bench when Davey pinch ran for him and Manny got picked off, remember that? He reluctantly finally moved over for Bordick, but it certainly wasn't like Cal was volunteering.

I would be remiss if I didn't point out that at least we're having mature, rational discussion about this. Normally, there's always someone who will come in with a brilliant "Jeter sucks", type of comment. So thanks to all for that.

  14. HELP:eek:

Beaner you seem like a really nice guy but please do not compare jeter to My Perfect One!!!!:hearts:

    :no::002_scry:

    :epic:

They are a perfect comparison. Great players, great guys, both give a lot to charities, spend more time in the community than anyone...etc. Those kind of things make it hard not to compare to me.

Both guys are pure class on and off the field. That's my point.

  15. That's what gets my goat. He's a "good player". Not "great" and certainly not worthy of the Hall of Fame.

2600 hits, .315 lifetime BA, 9 All Star Games, 4 World Series championships, rookie of the year, top 10 in the MVP voting 6 times, 6 200 hit seasons, 1500 runs scored, and 3 gold gloves (I know, I know)..;)

Come on Scottie, I know he's not your favorite, but he didn't get these numbers by accident. Gold Gloves not withstanding.

  16. I just hate that smirk, and the fact that he's the golden boy.

Somewhere along the line he was anointed the golden boy. I can't hold that against him. Like I said, good player, good guy, big city, 4 World Series titles in his first 5 years. I think if let's say Brian Roberts was the Yankees SS during that era, it would have been him. He meets all of the same criteria as far as on and off the field being a class act, and being a damn good ballplayer.

Jeter's only "overrated" because no one is as good as the media has made him out to be over the years. He's been a terrific ballplayer for a lot of years.

  17. This is why I'm so conflicted with you. You are rational and generally respectful in all your posts, but you got the gall to post some traitorous gribbidy-goo like this.

    ;)

    The paradox of beaner. :scratchchinhmm:

    Thanks!

I honestly do understand why people would hate guys like A Rod, Clemens, Teixeira...etc. But I don't get the Jeter hate at all.

Good player on the field, good guy off the field. Never been in trouble at all, always respectful of fans, media, opponents...etc.

The whole "The media loves him" stuff isn't his fault. It's because of all of those things I mentioned above. Does he get too much hype? Sure, but it's hard to hold it against him.

  18. I...I'm ashamed of myself!

Haha, sike, I got mad respect for Beaner. I've given up trying to end his Yankee love, I just deal with it. Like a wife in a loveless marriage.

No Love for the Yankees, but no hate either. I do love me some Jeets though.

Thanks for the good words Pedro, right back at ya.

  19. Dear Pedro,

You're drunk. In the morning you will realize that beaner makes a point of saying he does not hate the MFY's. What are you gonna think of your rash and unprincipled alcohol-fueled behavior then?

Feel the love Shack Daddy, feel the love!
