  1. Almost any car commercial.  I hate how they take a classic song from 30-40 years ago and use that in their ads.  It totally ruins whatever the song is for me.

My currently most hated commercial is the one for Verizon touting their relationship with Google phone.  The young people in that ad just seem so phony.

For some reason I find I usually like the Target jingle commercials.   Some of them are quite catchy and I like the flashy/artsy colors and designs.

  2. Sports Nation poll on the NFL page at espn.com today.

Should the Redskins change their name?

64% say no, 36% say yes. That's with 167,000 votes cast. I have to admit I'm surprised it was that one sided against the change.

It's not surprising to me in the least NFL fans on a sports web site do not think the name should be changed. These people are familiar and comfortable with the name so they see no issue. Go ask a random non-sports fan and I bet the poll would be reversed.

  3. Reading the article reminds me of this: http://www.upworthy.com/a-science-icon-died-17-years-ago-in-his-last-interview-he-made-a-warning-that-gives-me-goosebumps-5?g=2&c=ufb2

On a related note, I am really enjoying the updated Cosmos series with host Neil deGrasse Tyson. I love the stories about largely forgotten scientists who made major impacts on the world as we know it today.

  4. Cool, my wife got me a telescope this X-mas. Well sort of. Actually my wife allowed me to buy the family a scope this X-mas. We settled on the Celestron 127SLT scope, a Maks-Cassegrain which can be found here: http://www.celestron.com/astronomy/celestron-nexstar-127slt.html It's one of those "goto" scopes but I haven't been able to get the "goto" functionality working reliably yet. So, far I've been limited to watching the planets and the moon. Venus was looking very, very bright this morning around 6:30am but my first set of batteries used with the scope ran out of juice. I didn't feel like fiddling with them that early in the morning. I'll change them tonight and try again.

How large will a galaxy like M82 appear compared to the full moon? I've read the Andromeda galaxy is several moon's wide. My goal is to get a glimpse of it when I master the scope better.

  5. If this were a network tv show Hank would have escaped and he and Walt would have teamed up with Jessie to kill all the bad guys. Happy endings all around. Typical boring series ending. I am so glad this isn't a network tv show. When guns come out on Breaking Bad they aren't just props. This show is simply the best I have ever seen. I loved how Walt fell to the ground with his cheek pressed against the dirt after Hank was killed. It was just like Gus after his 'friend' was killed by Hector.

  6. One thing I don't get this season is Skyler's behavior. Last season she wanted Walt dead so her kids could be safe. This season she has embraced all that blood money and is an accomplice to covering up Walt's crimes. Hank gave her the perfect opportunity to play victim and get out this mess scot-free, yet she didn't take it. What does she think will happen 6-12 months from now when Walt is dead from cancer? Is she willing to spend a few years in jail just so she can maybe dig up the money later on?

  7. I have loved this show since the beginning. For some reason I find it disturbing when Walt and Jessie are going against each other. I like them as a team. I also have to remind myself that Hank is on the good side on this show. I find myself rooting for Walt even though he has done all of these awful things.

My prediction for next week is Walt Jr will come home just as Jessie is about to torch the house. Just a guess.

  8. I can't believe no one remarked on the Oriole connections in this movie. There is a scene where Amy Adams and Timberlake are quizing each other on baseball history/trivia. Three of the 4 questions they ask were O's related: only staff to have four 20 game winners, only person to win MVP in both leagues, and I forget the final one. Also, Timberlake's character was named Flanagan. I thought the O's stuff was pretty cool. Also, the final question they asked, "Name the three pitchers Reggie Jackson hit back-to-back-to-back homers off of in the 1977 series", I got two of the three correct. My wife was amazed that I knew all this stuff.

Other than that the movie was sappy and predictable.

  9. You beat me to starting a thread about this by a few seconds. I don't post often or start many threads, but I am listening to this and can't believe what I am hearing. After 11 straight years of losing Davis can't understand why the fans are so interested in the minors rather than the "major league" Orioles. Really Tom? You don't get it? Wow. I really liked it when Phil Wood disputed Davis' ridiculous comments by pointing out that fans of the Phillies ARE talking about who's hot in Reading on Philadelphia talk shows. Why am I listening to this? What time does the draft start?
