  1. I completely agree that Davis is probably trying hard. This isn't personal, it's just the plain facts. Baseball is hard, we all understand that. But to be as bad as Chris Davis is playing right now is something we've never seen before from a first baseman.
  2. This goes way, way beyond "some struggles." If CD was OPSing .650, he'd be having "some struggles." His OPS is nearly 200 points below .650. It's not just "struggles," it's being completely unfit to play in the major leagues. I hate saying this but it's the gosh darn truth.
  3. And honestly we should be holding Davis responsible for Mancini's negative WAR because Davis is the one forcing Trey out of position in LF. Just disgraceful. And Buck continuing to insist on not only playing Davis but batting him in the heart of the order is an abomination. It's an absolute travesty and makes a mockery of the game of baseball.
  4. I've been arguing this for two weeks now. And yes, he is on pace to have the worst MLB season ever. Sure, there will probably be utility infielders and catchers who had lower OPS than Davis will have, but nobody expects guys like that to do anything at the plate to begin with. For a first baseman to be putting up these putrid offensive numbers is obscene, and a quite frankly a desecration of the game.
  5. It might be a nice stealth tanking strategy, but otherwise batting Davis 4th is insane. I'd rather he bat 9th so younger guys like Sisco, Rickard, and Mancini can get more ABs.
  6. It's about time we got Joey back up here. He is more experienced and surely a better defender than Santander. Rickard is definitely an upgrade in all phases. Now that we have a free hand with Santander, I hope we don't see him in an Orioles uniform again until maybe a cup of coffee this September. Mullins and DJ Stewart should both be ahead of Santander on the depth chart.
  7. Agreed. If he can keep his OPS over .800 until the trade deadline, there's a chance we could find someone to pick up his entire salary in a trade if we were so inclined. DFA-ing him now when he's showing signs of life at the plate is silly.
  8. It's about f&*#@n time. Now I'm counting down the days until Santander gets sent down. Rickard is a AAAA but that's light years better than a single A one. Hope I don't see Santander in an Orioles uniform until 2020 at least. He clearly needs about 500-800 more AB of seasoning in the minors.
  9. There were roughly 20 pitchers last year with a better OPS than CD's current OPS with roughly as many or more PA. http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp#elem=[object+Object]&tab_level=child&click_text=Sortable+Player+hitting&game_type='R'&season=2017&season_type=ANY&league_code='NL'&sectionType=sp&statType=hitting&page=1&ts=1523392838151&position='1'&playerType=ALL&sportCode='mlb'&split=&team_id=&active_sw=&page_type=SortablePlayer&sortOrder='desc'&sortColumn=ab&results=&perPage=50&timeframe=&last_x_days=&extended=0
  10. Not that wild, just means there are less suckers out there anymore. Nobody thinks there's a snowball's chance in h-e-double hockey sticks that Cashner posts a sub-3.5 ERA in 2018.
  11. Apples to oranges because Miley will be in the NL facing a pitcher each time through the lineup. Even with that, I'm fairly confident he fails to make the ML or if he does, his ERA turns out worse than Cashner even without adjusting for park and league.
  12. That's not going to be nearly good enough to cut it in the AL East, unless we have an elite offense AND an elite defense behind them. And it's unlikely either of them are even above average. Still, this would be fine if we decide to trade Manny and go all in for a rebuild. Cashner's innings-based incentives make me thing he's primarily here to protect against Harvey or another too-young minor-league from being prematurely brought up.
  13. Chacin would have cost us more. NL teams get a discount on pitchers. AL teams in hitters parks get a premium. Brew Crew probably could have had Cashner on a one year deal or 2/12 or something. Garcia spent most of his career in the NL and got rocked in a brief stint as a Yankee last year. Maybe DD doesn't think he can cut it in the AL?? Cashner at least showed he can hold his own -- with a little luck -- last year.
  14. But wouldnt having the nats, phils, and pirates who are all closer than ny and boston offset that at least partly? Lots of fans in the i95 corridor (and i70 corridor in the case of the bucs) would turn out even if both teams arent that good. You're effectively doubling your market size for games against those 3 teams
  15. http://www.mcall.com/sports/baseball/phillies/mc-spt-baseball-realignment-20171018-story.html Ringolsby writes that Major League Baseball is considering expanding to 32 teams from its current 30 and realigning divisions, not necessarily by National and American leagues. Ringolsby lays out an East Division that would include the Phillies, Atlanta, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Miami, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay and Washington.
  16. Still not starting Santander. Or Sisco. The former is especially infuriating -- we might as well see what he has to offer in "real" MLB games before we decide whether to bring him back next year.
  17. Ok, so he has a year. I'm ok if he stays in the minors until September to hone his skills, unless we have a deep need for BP help due to an injury. Hopefully by next spring he will have better command and maybe develop some good secondary pitches.
  18. Seems like we'd be an ideal fit for him then. With our strong ML bullpen, there's no reason to rush him to the big leagues. He'll be able to take his time in AA/AAA and work on his control for a year or two without being rushed.
  19. Thanks, DD. I was really hoping the team would finish 83-79 instead of 79-83. That makes a huge difference to me. Orioles fans will remember your brilliance and dedication for years to come for helping make a third-place AL East finish 4 games out of the WC happen in 2015. There will be highlight videos, T-shirts, and even rap songs celebrating this trade for decades. In fact I think I'm going to get Parra '15 tattooed on my arm.
  20. Get ready for another decade of losing if they trade for Cespedes.
  21. Clearly they will not be selling this year. Ok, then. They're going for it. They now have an everyday left fielder for the rest of the season. Will still be interesting to see who they stick in RF. Do they keep trotting Chicken Parm out there at first with Davis at RF? I hope they shift Reimold to right. He's the only one who looks like he wants the job lately. Cut Parm, please.
