<p><p><p>I'm a longtime reader/occasional poster. I think I respect/agree with your posts more than anyone on here now. i think you and I have a lot in common, I'm an old guy,(63). I'm an actor, (between shows for the last 35 years!) Am a baseball historian and trivia buff, (including old movies, old soul & pop music. old tv shows, etc.) Am not gay, (not that there's anything wrong with that.) I'm "Clank", BTW. Now, who's nickname was that? And what trivia question is he the answer to? Actually, he's the answer to three relevant trivia questions. I also have the mound conference to authenticate the set with the pitcher Mark Langston of the Cali Angels. Bedard is no kid anymore. How much more do you honestly think he is going to develope? He'll give you 3, 4, maybe 5 good innings fairly consistanly. Now that would be terriffic from LH middle reliever. A guy who could really shut down a rally. In this day of specialists, don't you think his value would go up in this capacity? We've given him the ball every fifth day for going on three years now, how many outstanding starts has he given us? You know that pitching out of the pen, he would be one of the best in the league, a tremendous commodity. Let him try it for a month or two, he might finally find his niche.

Does anybody really believe that Bedard is ever going to be able to pitch us into the 8th and 9th innings on a fairly consistant basis? Let's face it, he's mediocre, at best, as a starter. As a long man, and eventually, set-up to Ray, he could be a LH version of Scott Shields, he'd be fantastic out there. A tremendous weapon for us or any contender.

Yes, but for what, SG? Everybody can see that this guy can only go 4 or 5 innings most of the time. What kind of value does he really have that another team would want him for their rotation? He sure is not helping the team as a starter, why not change his role to middle reliever? He's been floundering as a starter for three years now, and I'd bet the farm he'd be great pitching out of the pen. Isn't someone like him just what we need in the BP now, anyway. If he succeeds out there, when it comes time for that trade, his value would sky-rocket in that capacity. I can't believe they're not considering giving Kurt Birkins a shot at a start to see if he he can gives us 7-8 solid innings.
