Is this someone I should know?
Jim Palmer follows him so that is good enough for me.

The only circumstance that dictates it is that he fails as a starter. I get he's in the pen this year, but he's a starter next season. BP arms are a dime a dozen in the off-season. Our two best relievers were scap heap guys.

We'd be much better off with him being a really good starting pitcher.
I get it. Especially being a lefty. Circumstances may dictate otherwise.

If DL turned into Britton our healthy bullpen would be stupid good.
Yes and if we lose Felix until 2025 then him finally coming around and as a dominant reliever would be a godsend.

If DL Hall can take the Zach Britton failed prospect as a starter/highly effective relief pitcher I would take that at this point.

He just pitched back to back. Definitely not if we hold this lead, and maybe not even if there is a save situation.
Yes three days in a row is malpractice and a sure way to lead to injury. This isn't 2010 anymore after all.

I’d bet on @TradeAngelosor @ExileAngelos, assuming they’re different people.
Not me....but I fully endorse this jersey number.

He took a line drive off the numbers. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt for this one.
Ahh but the line drive was hit hard haha

Uh oh that's two meh outings in a row for Webb.

Worst umpire we have seen this year?

Wow what a devastating error.

That has to be tanking on Bud Black's part.
We see it all the time. Dave Roberts and Davey Martinez especially love doing this.

I continue to be absolutely fascinated how modern pitchers are handled. Dude was DOMINANT through 7 and only 86 pitches. And you opt to turn it over to a bad bullpen. Just wow.

Next man up. Gonna hurt not having the Mountain for two post seasons.

It is not on MASN

Losing Bautista is bad, but here's an open secret: the Orioles bullpen has closed a lot of games already without Bautista: he's rarely available to pitch two days in a row. Hyde has handled him with kid gloves, and now we can see that justifiably so. Each reliever now will have to play a little harder to pick up their injured teammate.
Funny I have the complete opposite take. Why handle a pitcher with kid gloves since it doesn't seem to prevent injuries?

I will be at the game tonight. I would give back my Mountain bobblehead for good news.

Means they think he at least needs to go on the IL vs day-to-day
I will rephrase. It doesn't mean he will require Tommy John surgery like was originally being hinting at.

No idea who that is but that news is what I’m eventually expecting. And the news of Hall on his way to Baltimore (which is also not fully verified I guess) would match up with this.
Hall coming up does not in any way indicate the severity of the injury.

I blame the injury on pitching Bautista back to back nights. We need to be more careful moving forward.

Maybe so. They all break. It sucks. So be it, that’s baseball.
Bautista was not the mountain before he got an opportunity. This is an opportunity for someone. We’ll see how it goes.
Yep. They all break. Which is why it's so dumb to be so careful with counting pitches and limiting innings like is the modern practice. Pitchers get injured just like they always have. The difference is back in the day you were actually using your best pitchers and not limiting their time on the field.

I support Hyde's decision to only pitch Bautista 1 inning. It would have been different if Bautista was going 2 innings to protect a lead and nail down a win. It's a bad decision to burn Bautista for the rest of the series when the game is a toss up. The O's weren't exactly scoring runs in bunches in this game. There is no guarantee the O's would have scored in the 10th.
The problem I have with Hyde in this game was he only used Perez for 1 out. This seems like it would have helped if Perez had pitched an inning or more. You can't have 1 batter relievers w/ a short bullpen. I'm not a fan of the 6 man rotation.
Again. Are we at the point now where a reliever needs two full days rest after throwing two innings? This is so ridiculous. And it just gets more and more absurd. The pitch count gods must be appeased.

That's consistent with his usage all year. If you complain about the decision here, you have to accept that it'll burn him for the series to keep him in.
We'll likely have playoff innings for him. I do not want a burnt out Bautista in October.
1 minute ago, vab said:Hyde is right, Bautista would have been down for the rest of the series but that still wasn't a reason not to go back to him. Can't count on getting to him the next two nights, you go after this one tonight and worry about tomorrow tomorrow.
Like I said. Modern baseball. I am sorry but it is ridiculous to declare a reliever unavailable for two days because he pitched two innings.

I was just sharing that I wasn't the only one. I agree with you that he is more valuable as a starter. Just not sure if that ship sailed.
