Maybe so. They all break. It sucks. So be it, that’s baseball.

Bautista was not the mountain before he got an opportunity. This is an opportunity for someone. We’ll see how it goes.

Yep.  They all break.  Which is why it's so dumb to be so careful with counting pitches and limiting innings like is the modern practice.  Pitchers get injured just like they always have.  The difference is back in the day you were actually using your best pitchers and not limiting their time on the field.

I support Hyde's decision to only pitch Bautista 1 inning.  It would have been different if Bautista was going 2 innings to protect a lead and nail down a win.  It's a bad decision to burn Bautista for the rest of the series when the game is a toss up.  The O's weren't exactly scoring runs in bunches in this game.  There is no guarantee the O's would have scored in the 10th.

The problem I have with Hyde in this game was he only used Perez for 1 out.  This seems like it would have helped if Perez had pitched an inning or more.   You can't have 1 batter relievers w/ a short bullpen.  I'm not a fan of the 6 man rotation.

Again.  Are we at the point now where a reliever needs two full days rest after throwing two innings?  This is so ridiculous.  And it just gets more and more absurd.  The pitch count gods must be appeased.

That's consistent with his usage all year. If you complain about the decision here, you have to accept that it'll burn him for the series to keep him in.

We'll likely have playoff innings for him. I do not want a burnt out Bautista in October.

Hyde is right, Bautista would have been down for the rest of the series but that still wasn't a reason not to go back to him. Can't count on getting to him the next two nights, you go after this one tonight and worry about tomorrow tomorrow.

Like I said.  Modern baseball.  I am sorry but it is ridiculous to declare a reliever unavailable for two days because he pitched two innings.

There is definitely some confusion going on. I was having a discussion with another poster, hence my comment about there used to be moderation on the forums. I have no clue why you quoted my response to him as if it was meant for you, it wasn't. I don't know why you're calling me the internet tough guy or whatever, I really have no idea what is happening in this conversation right now.

OK let's just call it a mix up.   It really did come out of left field when you said it so I am guessing it was directed at someone else.  It's all good man.  Go O's.

I have no clue what you are talking about. I've been here for 16 years and never once acknowledged you, why you posted to me what you posted when I don't even acknowledge anything you say and insult me is my problem. I literally have no idea what you ever post, and I don't care. Keep your insults to yourself, I'm not interested in any of your opinions, hence my never replying to you other than tonight.

Do you have me mixed up with someone dude?  I never came at you at all.  You came at me.  Feel free to scroll back.

  6. This is where we are with modern baseball.  Hyde was just asked why Bautista didn't come back to pitch the 10th inning.  One of the reasons he provided was he "didn't want to lose him for the series."  Two innings of work and he has to be unavailable for two days.  LOL

I’d have sent Bautista back out, especially if Baumann had to be the guy to go in after him.

Texting my O's friends and we were all immediately upset Bautista didn't come back out and knew the game was over when Bauman was in.

Used to be a time when this place was moderated and people like that weren't allowed here, but much like everywhere, there goes the neighborhood.

And why exactly should I not be allowed on here?  I gave my opinion that Bautista should have come out for the 10th and that we were being way too conservative with him.  I would say the majority of people on here agree with this take.  What is your problem?

However, something I fear might throw a wrench into things and goes against this idea, is the misunderstood talking point repeatedly posted on this message board about estate taxes. I'm no expert on tax law, but just doing a quick search and having a look at estate tax laws, it would appear that the idea the Angelos's would have to pay a ton of Estate Taxes is incorrect. The reason being is that there is something called "The Unlimited Marital Deduction", and Peter's estate is being passed to his spouse, Georgia. This means that Georgia is not subject to estate tax.

Long time lurker - first time poster....at least the first post in many years.

I am hoping someone smarter than me here can explain why / how our payroll was higher 25 years ago than it is now.  The O's had the highest payroll in the league in 1998 at just over $71 million. I get that revenue is down from the last five years but the dollar is also worth nearly twice as much now as it was in 1998.

Biggest reason was the ballpark. It was a cultural phenomenon in the 1990's, selling out each and every night.  Not to mention the Nationals were still six years away from being in existence.
