  1. I hope they win, the days of living and dying with sports are long gone for me, though, so I won't lose sleep either way or be biting my nails like I would have a decade ago. I believe they have the talent to win the series, have to go out and do it now.

Maybe but they didn't know who they were playing when they burned him on Sunday. At the end of they day, it's probably not going to matter but I just don't think it is good roster management. They are not in the playoffs without Suarez so It seem silly to burn him on a meaningless game. That is just my opinion. It's cool if people have a different one.

If this WC series comes down to we lost by not having Suarez on the roster we have much bigger problems than we'd thought.

He looked pretty damn good on Sunday!

The Twins offense had been absolutely abysmal for a long time. They were 17 games over .500 at one point then couldn't score a run to save their lives and went into a free fall.

I guess we just disagree (which is fine). I think that you can't take anything for granted and that you have to win each series. Suarez available to pitch in the WCS gives them a better chance to advance than not having him available. If you don't need him, don't pitch him and you've lost nothing. If you need him and don't have him then you are screwed.

I don't think they like the matchup with the Royals for him. Suarez doesn't strike people out, allows hard contact, and is an extreme flyball pitcher. The Royals never strike out and hit the ball hard in the air.

I get that but that still doesn't change the fact that they are a better team with him available. To burn him in a game that doesn't matter seems shortsighted. There is no ALDS unless they win the WCS.

Who do you swap him for then?

Me too. I just can't understand how you burn him through the WC round for a meaningless game on Sunday. There had to be other options. You got to make it through the WC round before worrying about who starts in the ALDS.

Suarez had a 6.20 ERA in Sept. Kremer 2.25. They are riding the hot hands going into a 3 game series. Suarez has shown his stuff doesn't play up out of the pen, he actually threw softer than when he was starting. More than half of his homers this year were in the past 30 days. He will help the team if they move on to the next round.

I think Suarez deserved to be on the roster!!  He was an important pitcher in helping us make the playoffs!

If this series goes 3 games and the Orioles happen to win it, Suarez will start game 1 in NY. This is not some slight against him.

I knew Rutschman’s numbers were bad in the 2nd half but taking a closer look they were even worse than I thought.

Adley 3 HRs the entire 2nd half in 208 at bats (20 RBI)

McCann hit 5 HRs in 84 at bats (18 RBI)

Rutsch hit .132! in July, .229 in August and .214 in September.

Doesn’t help his pitch framing was awful as well. Additionally, only threw out 19% of base stealers - 19 caught steals, 82 successful steals against him.

McCann was slightly better throwing out 24% of runners.

With Westburg back, there really isn’t any reason to keep plugging Rutschman in the 2 spot.

He's obviously a better hitter than that, I suspect something is bothering him and we'll find out after the season. Lobbing the SB on Rutschman is a bit disingenuous, our pitchers are basically letting the runner get halfway to 2B before they even start the windup.

I'll be happy when the ABS system goes in, because an umpire who is supposed to be watching the ball and not the catcher's glove, framing shouldn't even be a thing.

I would have preferred Detroit but it doesn’t really matter.  It’s really important to win game 1. No team has ever lost game 1 and came back to win a three-game wild card series.

As I mentioned in another thread, I would start Cowser and Mullins in the outfield.

I would lean against starting McCann.  From a run creation perspective, I think this is suboptimal to having Adley catch and Kjerstad (or Rivera) DH.  Even if you think McCann can do as well against Ragans, you then can’t replace him in the later innings without losing the DH (I don’t think there is any chance of Adley not starting).

Now maybe McCann improves run prevention enough to offset the disadvantage on offense, though defensive metrics don’t support that. If you believe McCann improves Burnes’ performance via pitch calling or comfort level, then maybe it makes sense.  I don’t think there is a load management reason not to start Adley.

I too would have preferred Detroit. Ultimately, it's meaningless, they just need to beat the team they are playing.

But neither Ragans or Lugo are as good as Skubal.  I like our chances with Burnes and Eflin starting in games 1-2.  Bobby Witt is the best hitter in the series but overall our offense is considerably better than KC.

    Ragans 186IP, 146H, 15HR, 67BB and 223K's.

    Skubal 192IP, 142H, 15HR, 35BB, 228K's.

Pick your poison, both should do the job about equally.

We have a better chance of beating Ragans in game 1 than we would have had to beat Skubal.

I don't agree. Burnes has 14 IP with 0 ER and 15K's against the Tigers, that neutralizes Skubal and if this team is as good as everyone hopes and the big scary Tigers are too, we'll get to see Skubal more than once.

I’ll take the matchup in which we have the better chance of winning game 1 in best of 3.

We won that series 4-2 but it took a lot of heroics to do so. If you think Ragans isn't capable of shutting down any team, I don't know what to tell you.

Well you can't blame us. Let's face it KC seems to have Bmore number. Between the  Royals beating the favorite Orioles in 2014 and the Chiefs keep beating the Ravens myself I have a complex with KC. Lol.

People are hoping we don't play the big scary Tigers because they beat our B team 2-4 in the past 10 days. They want KC. Hence, be careful what you wish for.

That makes no sense. If they had to win their current series would have looked much different.

How much different? They sat Judge yesterday, they threw their playoff starters for 5+ innings yesterday and today. They are also playing for the best record in the AL. They aren't mailing it in.
