  1. Where is the mystery? It was suggested that because the Rays signed Franco, we should be able to sign Gunnar. Realize that 200M dollars is worth a lot more in the DR than it is in the USA. There is 0 chance that Gunnar is going to sign a 10-year deal at age 22 when in a few years he'll be a 400M dollar player. I'm sure Boras is showing him contracts like Acuna that are cautionary tales. Acuna has been worth 226M through age 25, he's on an 8-year deal with an AAV of 12.5M and 100M overall.
  2. Do you think Gunnar is going to sign an 11-year deal with an AAV of 16.5M dollars?
  3. Oh, I see. It would be interesting to see what they make the Orioles do if anything should that happen. I'm not sure what type of relationship she has with the MLB owners.
  4. You can't shame the shameless, it's not even worth the effort of trying.
  5. What is his market rate? He's 22 and a rookie, I don't think anyone knows his market rate and likely won't for a few years.
  6. That would accomplish nothing, let them play this season out without them thinking the fans are more concerned with the FO than what they are accomplishing on the field.
  7. The only thing I've contended is that if Peter passes away, his wife owns the team and doesn't have to pay estate taxes, I'm not sure why this is going in 900 directions. People were speaking as if when Peter passes, they will have to sell the team because they can't afford the estate tax. I'm not a lawyer or even remotely interested in either estate or tax law, just simply saying that Georgia will own the team with no estate tax needing to be paid.
  8. I'm pretty sure he thinks the league minimum is too expensive.
  9. I'm not defending anything Honest Abe said, but wouldn't having 2 teams about 40 miles from each other sort of split the market? It's not like NY where 2 teams can easily be supported, hell, they could support 3 I'm sure.
  10. Yeah, I was confused by people saying they would have to sell the team when Peter passes, I suspected a spouse didn't have to pay estate tax, thanks.
  11. I really loved my goldfish when I was 7 but I didn't know how to properly care for it, so it died. I honestly loved it, though.
  12. Correct. Louis may be the one with sense, but John has Mommy's ear.
  13. Riley is coming off back-to-back 6+ win seasons, he's a steal at 21M per year. I'm sure Henderson wouldn't touch that contract, likely not even the JRod one.
  14. Other than Franco who did they sign long term? I know they bought out some arb years, but who am I missing that they gave a long term extension to other than Franco?
  15. Georgia owns the team when Peter passes, so John does by proxy I'd assume, as he appears to have her ear.
  16. The Braves really did a great job of getting people to sign long-term for way under market value. Which one of our guys takes any of these deals? The only one that might end up meh, is having to pay Olson until he's 37 years old. I'd bet my house that Gunnar wouldn't sign a 10-year deal at 22 years old for 200M, he's getting a 400+M contract at 27 or 28.
  17. Should be a rule that if you are going to be banned 6 times and keep rolling accounts you have to pony up to be a Plus Member.
  18. I think the only scenario that they sell is when both parents pass away and they cannot afford to pay the estate tax on the team.
  19. I think the confusion is, if Peter dies she needs to pay an estate tax and couldn't afford to, thus they would have to sell the team. She does not have to pay an estate tax as a spouse, and with John having her ear over Louis, they could potentially own the team for another decade or more, if she remains in good health.
  20. Interesting, I was reading about the lawsuits amongst the family and read this and was curious. The "While Georgia Angelos stands to inherit the franchise tax-free upon her husband's death" is the confusing part. I know the kids would have to pay an estate tax, but I'm not certain about a spouse. Edit: Yeah there is an actual tax law that says spouses do not have to pay estate taxes. Both Barker and Kaplan suggest that any sale of the franchise, if it were to arise, could wait until after Peter Angelos passes away. While Georgia Angelos stands to inherit the franchise tax free upon her husband’s death, Louis Angelos’ court filings suggest a sale while Peter Angelos is still alive would have “a sizable tax hit.”
  21. I thought when Peter passes his wife gets the team? I could quite possibly be wrong but I thought that would be the case.
  22. I'm sure the cord cutters have cut into MASN profits but they can certainly lock up some of the young talent.
  23. This is basically it. The talent knows it's going to be paid somewhere in the future and what the owner says means nothing to them. They know how baseball works.
