The bing advertisements on this site are infuriating. Stop taking control of my computer. It's obnoxious and disorienting.

Bump to note that my buddy won the Pulitzer in fiction today.

I was just coming in here to bump this in case you hadn't heard. I just saw it on The Second Pass.

I had a recent conversation in which several friends argued A Moveable Feast might be Hemingway's best. I haven't read it.
The Grapes of Wrath is a must read for so many reasons. I'm actually pretty stunned it wasn't previously mentioned.
I love A Moveable Feast. That and especially In Our Time are my favorites from Hemingway. I'm not too big on his novels, although I did like The Sun Also Rises.
I can't stand the Grapes of Wrath, but I think I'm in the minority on this one. In fact, I don't like much Steinbeck at all, except his short story The Murder, which I love.

Mondays. 'Nuff said.
I hear that.

Suffers the same problems as a lot of his novels. But it's pretty great at times, too. Reminds me a little bit of Affliction (in the intersection of insanity and mystery/suspense/conspiracy).
It reminded me a lot of White Noise, although I prefer Johnson over Delillo.
I haven't read Affliction. Do you recommend it?

Just finished Resuscitation of a Hanged Man by Denis Johnson. It's a weird one, and inconsistent, but I really enjoyed it.

I really dug Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev.

For some reason I had never read Suttree by Cormac McCarthy. I recently read it, and it knocked my socks off. The prose is glorious, and it's probably his funniest novel. The first three pages are astonishing.
Took me awhile to get through it, but I enjoyed it.

Stop changing your accent, Geico Gecko!

Jim Breuer's attempt at a comeback via Pizza Hut commercials is gonna drive me crazy.
Also, what the hell is wrong with Pizza Hut? Maybe they should spend their time and resources finding ways to make their pizzas taste better, rather than finding weird places to drop a crapload of cheese.
This is a great point. I think they're still stuck in the early 90s. People are more health conscious now - does Pizza Hut really think people want cheese injected into every possible pizza orifice? Some do, I'm sure, but it's certainly not a good long-term business model.

Ever since ESPN switched the place of baseball and football on their fantasy tab, I always, always click football first. ARGH

Shake it. Damn it.
I do, but that stuff still manages to get out.

Mustard Juice: that clear stuff that squirts out before you can get to the real mustard. Argh! The worst is when it gets all over your hot dog bun.

"It's like a toolbox or something"
"It's a Rambox"
"You could put fishing poles and shovels and hammers and stuff in it"
Truck commercials in general are awful.

There's a deli in walking distance from my house that used to have great chicken salad. But they recently changed the recipe, and now it's disgusting. Thanks.

Can anyone tell me the name of the book that's about minor league players? I think it's nonfiction account from the sixties or so by a career minor leaguer that apparently could write up a storm. I read about it, but can't remember the name. I've heard it's very good though.
Someone recommended this to me: Suder by Percival Everett
All I know is it's about a third basemen for the Seattle Mariners. I've heard it's good, but I'm not sure. Haven't read it yet.

While I agree with the sentiment of your rant, I also understand where some of the posters are coming from. The orange is still just a little too bright and I find myself squinting at the screen. It's much, much improved from the bright orange/white text-box, but the contrast is still a little harsh and I can see why it would be especially harder on some of the older posters with more sensitive eyes. It's a testament to what a great community we have here that these posters are frustrated; they want to continue to contribute but also don't want to have to cope with headaches just to do so. I appreciate all the hard work the staff is putting into the site and understand there are going to be some aches and pains during the transfer, but I don't think all of the complaining is unwarranted, though a little more tact would probably help their cause.
Anyways, my short rant: Opening day vendors.
