I'd be curious to see the percentage of players in the majors who skipped AAA, even just the "really good" ones, which would be tricky to determine who qualifies. Who besides Machado skipped AAA in the Baltimore organization the last 25 years.

To be fair he said “really good prospects”.

I simply do not post on this site (maybe less than 300 times in 18 years), but I thought this was an interesting quote :

“I know the Orioles are in rebuild mode, but come on. It’s embarrassing to the sport what they’re doing, or aren’t doing. They’re not even signing the better minor league free agents, in my opinion.”—NL vice president of scouting

    I actually agree with this.

I also agree that what Elias is doing is probably for the best long term.

In 1998 the Orioles had the highest payroll in baseball.  In 2016 the Orioles' payroll was over $150M on revenues of about $250M, one of the higher ratios (if not the highest) in the league

I know you don't like the approach, but your opinion that all savings go into the Angelos yacht fund and will never get spent is just an opinion.

The owners haven’t opened the books. There is more revenue than is let on.

No, but adding strength when you already have the ability to hit will help for sure, and it's why guys went from good average hitters with limited power to good average hitters with massive power numbers during the steroid era. Also, it's clear that steroids allowed pitchers to throw harder.

“When you already have the ability to hit” is the key part of your statement, especially as it (doesn’t) relate to Davis.

Earlier this spring there were threads about Davis putting on 25 LBS of muscle and he looked like his old self in spring training, long HR and being walked by pitchers.  And of course speculation  that he was on PED.  If he was, what happened?  Did he go off of the juice? Is he still more muscular or did he lose those 25 LBS during the long break?

Just in theory, if a player was on PED then signed a huge contract it would be in his  financial interest to stop taking the PED the minute the ink is dry on that contract. I mean the only way the contact could be voided would be if he tested positive and was suspended. From a financial standpoint after signing,  it would seem much better to fail and be released, rather than take any chance of that contract being voided and losing millions.

I have no idea what's wrong with Chris Davis but I am wondering if it is ever wise to sign someone to a long term contract these days.

Bodybuilding doesn’t really help you hit a baseball.

Exactly, he's clearly communicated working on different things and making tweaks. An overhaul that consists of tearing down his whole swing (that got him to the show in the first place, where he had enormous success at points) and starting over just doesn't fit with where he is in his career.

He has been the worst player in baseball for years. He should be open to an overhaul (no matter how you define that).

And the shift hurts every hitter like him, and yet he is the only one setting records for poor play.
