  1. This is the plan working though right? DD took him with the plan to carry then stash him. Him struggling at ML level early on shouldn’t have diminished his prospect status, which had always been projection based.

Not arguing as I don’t pretend to be a significant person in the media.

The writer expressed his information as he believes they are facts.

i have no idea if he’s spoken to Elias or anyone else tied to the Orioles.

Just FYI Fansided is known for pumping out these type of poor articles, written in a way to pop up in google searches. I’d steer clear of them.

As Elias has stated, he isn’t looking for elite prospects in return for his trade pieces. Everyone is clear on what type of value even the best Orioles player has at this point. Instead, the goal of Elias at this deadline is to acquire talent from the lower levels of the minor leagues, including more young, international prospects, similar to the two pieces acquired for Andrew Cashner.

    Where did Elias say that?

I don't know, you might want to wait for the final bill to be tallied.

Me, I really enjoyed 2012 and 2014.  2016 was alright but honestly my enjoyment was impacted by what I saw over the horizon.

You endured 14 straight losing season and then didn’t even realize you should be enjoying The good times? Oof

Wow ...Cashner had a 5.00+ ERA last year and a 3.83 this year. It doesn't take a genius to figure why he was trade this you and no one wanted him on a waiver claim last.

He made 17 starts this year with a FIP  slightly above his career number. No GM changed his valuation on him because of this. He’s got a 10 year track record...one ok streak isn’t moving the needle.

You think they chose them due to scouting or was it model pickups based on age and production?

    Both.

Elias strikes me as very process oriented and as he has noted several times, he is taking account of all available data when making these calls.

So this is just my open question, if you don’t know anything about the players coming back, how do you judge the return? I can’t judge the return.

Coming from someone who likes the return...

Just last year these guys had a dollar value put on their potential as prospects. So there is a pretty solid reference point for their value.

Do you really think, especially this early in trade season, that we couldn’t have gotten more if we had waited? Even from the Bosox? Anything is possible but I think it is  Very likely we could’ve gotten more if we had waited.

I could argue with you, but let’s just check back in once Jason Vargas is dealt.

Side note, if there was a poll up two years ago that said Cashner or two 16 year olds from Venezuela...

We might as well be looking at the 2021 top prospects as well. Heck, maybe even Kumar Rocker in 2022, but that would be 4 straight #1 picks.

I think I’d want us to take the top NCAA P. The 1B is out just because of positional value. Just comes down to whoever are scouts like and what they will sign for.

I believe we get a comp pick next year after the 1st rd instead of after the 2nd like this year. That increases our bonus pool. If there is no clear cut #1(like AR or Witt) then maybe draft based on who gives you chance to sign a tough sign with the comp pick and pick at the top of the 2nd.

Pete Alonso and says hi. Personally I’m not worried about positional value at 1.1. Take the best baseball player. Tork is definitely in that conversation.

Nope.  Batting average matters.  A guy hitting .280 might be better than a guy hitting .300 but .240 is bad no matter how you slice it.

All of those guys you listed probably had long stretches where they hit .240. That’s how baseball works. Only Mike Trout (the best baseball player alive) is immune to slumps.   Yusniel has been a .280 hitter at AA, stop saying .240.

BA is one of the least predictive stats. You are making it even less predictive by cutting down the sample size. Diaz has hit .270 in AA. Over 645 PA, which honestly still isn't a large enough sample for something as noisy as batting average.

Regardless, scouting stats alone is somewhat missing the point and you have chosen one of the worst stats to invoke.

.280 over those 641 ABs is what I’m seeing. Which would be right there with those all stars that @atomic  listed. Hilarious, rarely have I seen someone  so misuse a stat only to have it turned around on them immediately.
