I would go straight to Irvin at #5 and give him another shot to be the innings eater we traded for. Back-to-back 180 inning campaigns at a decent ERA. He's got the stamina and he seemed to fix something after coming back last season. He's my guy.

Not only do I like Wells and Hall in the bullpen more than starting, but I also think the bullpen really needs those guys in it. If Irvin is going to be at his most useful for this club, it's as a SP.

I don't think I'd go straight to Irvin at 5, but if it ends up being him, I'm happy with that. I think ideally for me, DL Hall surprises us during Spring Training and gets his career as a starter back on track. If that doesn't happen, then my next choice would be Irvin, I'd rather not risk losing Tyler Wells due to fatigue half way through the season. A full season of reliever Tyler Wells is more valuable than half a season of starter Wells, imo.

Seems most events do not allow the ability to get autographs and a lot of events seem more adult oriented. Not a bad thing by any means, I see folks enjoyed the happy hour last year. Just not easy with a young family especially when you don't live in northern area.

Seems like none of the events allow autographs, which is a huge bummer. Has anyone been to these happy hour events? If so, how were they?

Kind of hilarious/bold from Stroman, and the Yankees being like ehhh we're good. Lol.

Lol yup, I then learned that Stroman apparently is disliked by Yankees fans because of negative comments he made about the Yankees in the past. Overall weird storyline I wasn't expecting to enjoy on this NFL Sunday.

Good signing for them. He was my preferred #4ish guy to sign if we don't make a trade. I think adding the sweeper will do wonders and I would have liked to see the Os pitching guys work with him. Ah well.

Kind of looking like Stroman or bust?

Yeah I was warming up to the idea of Manaea but oh well. It does seem to be Stroman or bust from a FA perspective. My ideal scenario would be trade for a SP and then sign one more RP in FA. But if we just grab Stroman and call it an off-season, I'd be fine with that too.

Edit: Immediately after posting this I login to Twitter to see that Stroman has reached out to the Yankees to let them know he is "heavily interested" in signing with them, maybe I don't want him after all!

    Go get Alonso.

Hall and Wells in the bullpen

    Get a number 2/3 starter.

Pray that Jackson Holliday is Bo Bichette.

    Trade Mullins/Cowser for Luis Robert

Pray Coby Mayo is ready in July.

That Luis Robert trade would be exciting

  6. I was also very curious about this. I wonder if he wasn't at the game at all or if he just had a situation where he needed to leave immediately after it ended? Either way very odd, and also a bit concerning, hope all is well with his family/personal life.

I think there is about 10 players that will not be with the O's for one reason or another next season.

FA - Gibson, Frazier, Flaherty, Fuji

    Non tenders - Lopez, Zimmermann

Trades - Urias, Norby, Stowers, (McKenna who is out of options)

Agreed with this list. I wonder what a package of Hays, Urias, Norby and Stowers would net us?

I can't see Mateo or Urias bringing us much in return in a trade.  They don't provide a ton of surplus value given their production levels and the fact that they are arbitration eligible.  Maybe a relief prospect or fourth outfielder type.   The main benefit from moving on from them is that we create space for better players coming up through the system.   If we want to get anything substantial in an offseason trade it will come from trading someone like Santander.

Agreed, I think Mateo and Urias have value, so I wouldn't want to just let them walk, but I see them as a throw-in to a larger trade.

This is one of those instances where the use of the team “back of the rotation guy” makes no sense to me.   There are 119 pitchers in MLB (4 per team, essentially) who have thrown 90 innings or more.   Kremer ranks 63rd of all those pitchers in ERA.   In what world is that “back of the rotation?”   And by the way, he’s got a lot more than 90 innings.  He ranks 31st in MLB there, with 154.2.  IMO, he’s at least a very solid no. 3 starter.

I think we're kind of saying the same thing here.

So considering the stats you cited, he is an average/above average #3 starter, therefore my comment saying he has had back to back "very nice" seasons for a back end of the rotation guy would still be correct, perhaps "great" would be more appropriate than "very nice." And like @clapdiddy said, this was with me fantasizing about what our rotation could be next season. On a bad team, Dean would potentially be the ace of the staff. If he keeps pitching like this and is our 4th/5th starter for the next few years, which I think is what we should be hoping for, then we're in for an awesome ride.

Neither really in 8th or 9th … so the real issue is how often do our starters get us in the situation Hyde was in..where we have no better other options.
My working BP trust list (right now and recently) 3 tiers of trust ..  high, pretty good, not too high

    1/2  Cano, Coulombe

    3/4/5/6 Webb, Perez , Fuji , Hall

    7/8 Krehbiel, Lopez

Josh Hader would have looked so good lol

Lol yeah, if either of them are throwing in the 8th or 9th, we're in big trouble. I hope Fuji can continue the streak he's on, his stats over the last 7 games are really nice

Means with a scheduled rehab start for Norfolk tonight and hoping it's his last before getting activated to the major league roster.

I understand it's AAA, but man, if you would have told me he'd put up 1 ER over 9 IPs in his rehab starts, I would be ecstatic. We'll see how it translates to the Majors but very encouraging for not only this season but more so next season.

If he returns to his prior form, a rotation of Grayson, Bradish, Means and Dean plus potentially an above average (hopefully elite) guy that we trade for the in off-season could be really exciting.

  12. Is it clear to anyone else that Cedric is not 100% recovered from his injuries? Don't get me wrong, he's still playing pretty well, but just in watching him, he seems to be a touch slower offensively. His steals are way down, but even just watching him run out grounders, seems like he's being a little precautious. My assumption is they've told him to play at a speed he's comfortable with and let it fully heal in the off-season, obviously losing his defense alone would be a big blow to the team, not to mention he's still hitting decently and has been very clutch.

I haven't heard anyone really mention this, so was just curious if I'm the only one seeing it this way.

Mateo's future with the O's (or lack of it) was doomed when Henderson, Westburg, Holliday and Ortiz entered the system and performed well. (You can add Mayo and Norby if you want.) There's not going to be much room for a defense -and-speed-only only backup with those guys and Urias around.  If Mateo had sustained his offensive production a little better, he might have bought more time and would have brought something back in a trade, but IMO that's all his offensive fade changed.

I was going over next years roster in my head and there's clearly only room for one veteran bench infielder imo, so the front office will be deciding between Mateo and Urias. Both can help a team win, and have specific skillsets. Mateo is an above average defender who's one of the fastest players in the league, whereas Urias is a Gold Glover who can hit for average but not much else. It seems like fans overwhelmingly prefer Urias but I am curious to see if the FO agrees.

Elite Speed with good defense vs. decent bat with elite defense.

Also seems like most people think Urias would be more valuable in a trade, which I think is correct, that Gold Glove is a big deal, but I'm curious to see what value, if any, Mateo would have.

If Matt Moore makes it to the Os, they should be all over him... lefty reliever who has pitched in the playoffs.

His stats are very good but my question would be who would he replace? All three lefties in the pen deserve to be here imo, would it be crazy to have a 4th?
