The Orioles need our help.  Everyone switch to the Nationals broadcast. It’s our only hope.

    I urge you to not.

I understand (maybe incorrectly) that the idea behind managers getting tossed is that by showing his players he will fight for them, even act like a jerk for them, will promote some kind of good feeling or team spirit, not just for the balance of that game but more generally. Can't measure that, I don't think.

I agree with that perhaps in a season-long managerial, soft-skills sense. But I don't think getting ejected in a single game increases your chances to win said game.

Cowser taking 88 down the middle, missing down the middle 89 and then taking a terrible strike 3 call. All completely awful.

He strikes as someone who we will love or hate depending on the month.

So are the cherry blossoms really that cool? I've been in NOVA for four decades and never had a desire to go see them, but people talk about them so much and the fan base seemed pretty pleased overall with the CC motif.

If you want to see a bunch and avoid crazy crowds, go to Haines Point, which is right by the Tidal Basin. Just as many and almost as scenic without 5,000 screaming teenagers from the Midwest.

I can't see that on my app. I mistakenly said I was watching via my Mac on my TV. But this time, I'm using FireTV's MLB app. The option are very limited, but it's still pretty cool overall. Activating the Gameday option shows the pitch sequence and the pitching box history for the at bat.

Oh nice. If I wasn't blacked out of MASN in D.C., I'd have it in a second.

Speaking of alternate audio, I did switch to there O's radio feed and for the first time ever for me on MLB-TV (streaming from my Mac onto my TV), the audio matches the video perfectly.

That's awesome. I haven't had MLB.tv in years. Do they still let you do the "park sounds" option that has no commentary?

They’re mad that their park is full of O’s fans.

Since the...means by which I watch games always results in the home team's crew, I've heard a lot of different booths. We don't appreciate the Orioles announcers enough, even with the praise they routinely get.

  8. From the crack Nats announcers, I have learned the "Nats fans have cooler sunglasses than Orioles fans" and "Orioles fans are bad at Moo-ing"

  9. I can't find the post, but Tony once said something like, "From what I've heard, if he wasn't in baseball, I'll just say he wouldn't be pursuing a PhD." I think of that every time he's on the mound.

  10. This is an awesome thread, if only to show generational differences. I was born in 1990. I don't like Pittsburgh, mostly because I despise their football and hockey teams. I have zero feelings toward the Reds. But I'm fond of the Dodgers—mostly because of watching Vin Scully on MLB.tv in college—and Mets, who I consider my NL team.

People do need to realize that the season used to start much later than it now does.  Frank Robinson hit 38 homers as a 20-year old rookie, but the season didn’t even start until April 17.  I’d bet there are some other players 22 or younger who hit 10 homers in the first 29 games of the year, but the 29 games weren’t played by April 30.

Wait are you telling me they used to play 154 games or something?

Funny thing you mentioned this; months ago my neighbor calls me and says I need your help immediately!

Me: I’m real busy taking care of my baby, what’s going on!?

Her: I wanted boneless chops at the butcher! But I came home and they’re all bone in; how in the world can I season them!?!

    That was me.

What do the Reds announcers have to say about that called strike three to end the eighth inning?

He sounded like a man vaguely annoyed that the only had boneless pork shoulders at the butcher rather than the bone-in shoulders he was hoping for.

I wish the O's would move on from Hyde, but it's not happening as long as the O's keep winning.

As there have been two Simpson memes post in this thread already, I'd like to go on record saying that Hyde is perfectly cromulent.
